Going back to Canada with MD from US
Dear all, Got in one of my dream schools. Will hopefully be graduating from a top 3 medical school in the US few years down the road. I'm thinking of returning to Canada ultimately to practice for personal reasons. I hold a PhD related to one of the sub-fields in IM if it helps. I am also a Canadian citizen who does not hold a Green Card or US passport. Hope to pursue IM followed by a fellowship such as cardiology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, or heme/onc. Ob/gyn is also a... Going back to Canada with MD from US (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Infectious Disease and ... ?
As name of this threat suggest, what I am asking in if there is anything that can be combined with Infectious Diseseases and why would that one combination be good with it. Like, for example only, Dr. House is ID and nephrologist, I dont know if it is only to show that hes genius or if ID and Nephrology can be combined. Is there something else that can be combined with Id? like critical care or something? I hope I made myself clear enough :/ Thanks for answers in advance (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Where do I go from here? (MCAT Prep,ECs and etc.)
Hello Everyone!!! I'm a long time reader of SDN, but this is the first time that I am actually posting in a thread! I am currently a sophomore at a top 50 university located in New York. I have actually created my own major through a special program, however I am on the accelerated track to complete my MPH in Global Health by my "senior" year (2019). My main goal is to work as an infectious disease specialist or medical officer at an international health organization. Here are my current... Where do I go from here? Need advice, I'm struggling with Step 2CK studying :(
Hello everyone, I'm really struggling and freaking out right now. I blocked off almost 6 weeks of study time for my Step 2CK, scheduled for 8/27. I'm only two days in, but I feel like my studying isn't working. Just as a background, I needed 8 weeks to study for step 1, and scored a 199. IM was also my first rotation, and weakest shelf exam. All in all, I'm going in knowing I have to study and cover more than most people to pass. I'm starting with infectious diseases. I tried skimming... Young Australia Schools + US Residency Matching
Hi everyone, I am a Canadian planning to study medicine in Australia. However, after reading countless amounts on the ongoing internship crisis in Australia, if I choose to study in Australia for medical school, the USMLE seems like a must. Could someone please comment on the specific states that would be excluded for residency consideration if the Australian medical school I plan on attending is <20 years old? I've been reading a bit but can't find any solid information on this and it makes... Young Australia Schools + US Residency Matching (Source: Student Doctor Network)

research interests on AMCAS
so I looked to see if there is a thread on this, but I didn't see one.... (let me know if I missed it though) I am applying for a bunch of MD/PhD programs this year, and I have a question about what I should designate for "combined degree areas." So I am a chemistry major and most of my research has been in chemistry, which I really enjoyed, but I have recently become very interested in infectious diseases so I think I want to do my PhD in microbiology. In part because I wanted to do basic... research interests on AMCAS (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Help me since my school won't?
I'm finishing up first year and have an infectious disease research project lined up this summer along with step 1 studying. As of now I'm pretty set on path, although I'm still interested in ID and heme/onc. I've shadowed a community pathologist for a couple of days but would really like to see what the day-to-day life is like for an academic pathologist. Although potentially naive at this point, my desired career goal is clinical path combined with some public health policy, particularly... Help me since my school won't? Post-bacc, Carribbean Med School, or PA?
Hello, My goal is to go MD/DO eventually and I'm thinking of specializing as infectious diseases or pulmonology (or maybe a combination of both), but I don't believe I have the specs to make in at a traditional MD or DO program right now. I've been denied to a few med schools (FSU and Creighton), as well as a few post baccs (USF, Nova Southeastern). I majored in Biology and graduated with a 3.2 from a private school with a 19 (old) and 489 (new) MCAT score. I played 4 years of football,... Post-bacc, Carribbean Med School, or PA? Help with decision... Berkeley vs Hopkins
Hello all, I'm currently deciding between Hopkins and Berkeley for my MPH, and would love some advice. I'm a a current MD with future plans to apply to Infectious Disease with a longterm goal to work in academia & government (e.g. CDC/NIH) and continue both bench and clinical research. I am planning to get an MPH in order to get a foundational knowledge of public health (and in particular Epidemiology and Biostatistics) to help achieve and expand on those goals. I've been accepted to the... Help with decision... Berkeley vs Hopkins (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do you think there is a chance that I will be accepted to medical school?
Last year, my senior year, I had a family problem and I got one C in infectious diseases and one F in spectroscopy. Both were electives and not needed for my degree. I taught I would handle studying for MCAT and take 16 credit hour but the spectroscopy class I taught I would take and get a better grade in is taking too much of my time. So I am thinking of withdrawing form the class. How much would it affect my medical school acceptance? Should I even withdraw or just continue? What would... should I push for testing?
Ok, I have never done this before, but I need some advice. A little bit of history-my husband(27) had very frequent lung infections as a child. His bedsheets always had a salt residue on them from his night sweats(which he still has). They had him tested for cf, but his results were borderline, & he was never retested. The summer before we got married(he was 20 years old), he ended up in the ER for diagnosed pleurisy. From that point on, he has had a chronic cough, & allergy symptoms that don't ever go away. Fast forward to current. He is exhausted. He can't sleep at night, & his sinus infections will not go aw...

Mrsa
My son is 17...dd508...fev 110%...colonized with MRSA...first dx with it in 2012. He would do a round of lenezolid and not culture for 6 months or so and then BAM! out of nowhere. Unfortunately, we have been plagued with this...mess! He has not had a MRSA negative culture since the end of 2014. Now the drugs are not working as well as they previously did and he is flaring up more often. I am VERY interested in any alternative/holistic approaches to controlling this. Any ideas are appeciated. Thanks (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Adults Forum)
