The Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium
(PCPLC) was established in 2016 as an international consortium of surgeons, scientists, and other specialists with the primary goal of facilitating research to improve the care of patients with anorectal malformations (ARM), Hirschsprung disease (HD), intestinal dysmotility, fecal incontinence, and other colorectal and pelvic disorders. Surgical care and long term follow up is needed for these patient populations and is paramount for improving their overall health, long term outcomes, and quality of life. Commentary to “Accuracy in reporting incontinence in adults with spina bifida: a pilot study”
Comprehending the true impact of incontinence on quality of life would be an invaluable tool in the pediatric urologist ’s toolkit when counseling patients and families on potential interventions and for stratifying severity of symptoms. Often the confluence of objectivity and subjectivity belies the “true” nature of something so personal as “bother.” Here, the authors attempted to determine how immediate r ecall of bother secondary to urinary or fecal incontinence in the spina bifida (SB) population compared to a daily diary chronicling episodes of incontinence1. Pressure ulcers acquired during inpatient rehabilitation after spinal cord injury, characterization and predictors: A 15-years' experience

Metastasis to the bladder from primary breast cancer: A case report and literature review
Oncol Lett. 2024 Apr 5;27(6):249. doi: 10.3892/ol.2024.14382. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTBreast cancer is the most prevalent malignant tumor affecting women and represents the leading cause of female cancer-related mortality worldwide. Although distant organ metastasis accounts for the majority of breast cancer-related deaths, reports on bladder metastasis are limited in the existing literature. The present study describes the case of a patient with bladder metastasis originating from breast cancer. In addition, the present study also provides a review of 54 cases of similar disease that have been documented in the curre...

Controversies in Post-Prostatectomy Incontinence Management: Role of Urodynamics Testing and Sequence of Continence Surgery with Salvage Radiation Therapy
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis paper evaluates the current evidence on the role of urodynamics in prostatectomy incontinence (PPI) and should male sling (MS) or artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) surgery be performed before or after patients receiving radiation therapy in terms of continence outcomes.Recent FindingsThe prevalence of PPI is more common in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy than benign prostatic surgery, and the presence of postoperatively de novo overactive bladder and urge incontinence is not common even without the addition of radiation therapy. Hence, the question arises whether patients presenting...

Exploring the Impact of Early Apical Release Technique on Postoperative Incontinence in Endoscopic Enucleation of the Prostate: A Comparative Analysis
I am writing to share insights and observations on the impact of the Early Apical Release (EAR) technique during Endoscopic Enucleation of the Prostate (EEP) on postoperative incontinence, as influenced by recent studies. The inconsistencies in outcomes regarding early postoperative incontinence following the adoption of EAR during EEP have piqued my interest, particularly when considering the findings of Heidenberg et al.1 and Gauhar et al.2 (Source: Urology)

Editorial comment on “The Impact of Standard vs Early Apical Release HoLEP Technique on Postoperative Incontinence and Quality of Life”
Surgery provides the ultimate treatment for patients with BPH complications. Ideal treatment should provide removal of the entire gland with no complications during ambulatory procedures. Despite tremendous technological advances, this goal has not been met yet. Historically, open prostatectomy and TURP have been figured as „gold standard“ treatments for prostates over and under 80 grams, respectively. During the last thirty years, technological improvements have enabled a wide spectrum of mostly minimally invasive surgical modalities. (Source: Urology)

Manual Dexterity Predictors of Artificial Urethral Sphincter Success
To determine better in-office measures for artificial urethral sphincter outcomes, we investigated the ability of preoperative timed peg-transfer, pinch strength, grip strength, and Disabilities of the Arm Shoulder and Hand Outcome questionnaire in predicting postoperative satisfaction, confidence, and ease of use of artificial urethral sphincter placement for stress urinary incontinence. Midurethral Sling with Concomitant Sacrocolpopexy: Does the Sequence Matter? A Retrospective Cohort Study
The objective is to determine if the timing of midurethral sling (MUS) placement has an impact on the recurrence rate of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients that underwent robot sacrocolpopexy (RSC) with MUS placement at a large community hospital. Our data demonstrated that there was no significant difference in SUI recurrence when the MUS was placed before or after the RSC (15% vs. 11%, P = 0.41, respectively). We concluded that physician preference may dictate surgical approach to sequence of retropubic MUS placement at the time of RSC.PMID:38636804 | DOI:10.1016/j.jo...
