Pulmonary Hypertension
Anyone diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension after lung transplant? I just had a routine echocardiogram and my cardiologist said I have mild pulmonary hypertension, which he does not think needs to be treated at this point. Curious to know if this is common after transplant. I understand that it is common in end stage CF, so I most probably had it at that point, but supposedly a lung transplant would fix that. Any input would be appreciated. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Transplants Forum)

A large cohort study suggests that aspirin prophylaxis only benefits people with a prior cardiovascular event
Conclusions In patients with stable coronary artery disease and hypertension, aspirin use was associated with reduced risk for adverse cardiovascular outcomes among those with prior ischemic events. Among patients with no prior ischemic events, aspirin use was not associated with a reduction in risk. COMMENT: The determining the risk/benefit ratio of prophylactic aspirin use for the prevention of cardiovascular events has become a complicated issue.  The current recommendations from the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/heartdisease/aspirin.htm recommend aspirin prophylaxis in those with prior cardiovascular events.  Th...

can we save a million hearts?
medscape has this article this week and the title refers to saving a million lives by better control of cardiovascular risk factors particuarly the control of hypertension. Do you agree? our mind inside the heart not the brain
first .. all of us know the the heart has it's automaticity through A_S node , and can completely act and beat without any CNS connection for some period .  that means that the initial impluse is generated form the heart itself   second .. I think that when we recieve a very bad news  our response initiat from the heart not brain like the spinal reflex .. when we touch a candle our muscle contracts by an order from the spinal cord not the brain .. then the brain realize that we touched a hot thing afterall . so this is the heart .. we recieve a bad news .. our heart starts to response ( e.g. Tachycardi...

the lifetime risk of hypertension
this study has a cohort size of 1.25 million people - an impressive feat in itself http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(14)60685-1/fulltext this is one of the figures from the paper showing years of life lost per cardiac diagnosis - it seems that the blood pressure ranges to be in are 90-114mmhg ofr systolic and 60-74mmHg of the diastolic - is this surprising? hypertension treatment saves 100000
the lance have just published a paper suggesting that improved treatment of blood pressure in England between 1994 and 2011 has saved 100 000 events (myocardial infarcts , strokes and deaths) with 37% of people having good blood pressure control versus 11% at the beginning of the study period. This period overlaps with the National Service framework for coronary disease . Do these changes result from better heart health generally or is this hypertension specific?     http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(14)60688-7/abstract (Source: Doc2Doc BMJ Cardiology)

Do you think hypertension is a stress related disorder?
A common wisdom is that stress elevates the blood pressure. Whether hypertension is a stress-induced disorder or not is a question that haunts many people. I wonder after the advances in genetics is the hypothesis that hypertension is related to type A personality, and stress-induced still valid or not. (Source: Doc2Doc BMJ Cardiology)

Clinical question of the week: is the era of 'interventional' treatment of resistant hypertension over?
This week's question of the week comes from our cardiology clinical champion, Sadia Khan A recent editorial in the BMJ discussed the outcome of Symplicity HTN-3, the world's first blinded randomised controlled trial of renel denervation in hypertension. The trial failed to meets its targeted reduction in blood pressure and questions are now being asked about the design of the trial.           (Source: Doc2Doc BMJ Cardiology)
