can Alarm clock kill you? (pre-med)
Everyone, i recently bought an alarm clock that costed me about 45 bucks. It's extremely loud(it wakes up people in the room across from me, and next to mine)... and it also shakes my bed violently It just came into my pre-med mind as i thought about my health though that I constantly wake up all freaking out and my heart drops bc of how loud it is. i actually suffer from high blood pressure. I was curious if such level of fright(?) can kill me by accident just like how people talk about how... can Alarm clock kill you? (pre-med) (Source: Student Doctor Network)

IV hydralazine
A cardiologist today told me that IV hydralazine is a drug which should never be used for anything. Reason is because it has an extremely short duration of action yet extremely rapid onset of action. It is apparently only good for making the numbers look better for your attending, but otherwise exceptionally worthless. If this is the case, why have I seen an order for "hydralazine IV 10mg IV PRN Psys >160" on so many patients with medicine consult for "hypertension." (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How RVH eventually screws all the other chambers?
If there is RV hypertrophy, with a decreased ejection fraction and filling capacity, then will this lead to RA hypertrophy because RA still has the same amount of blood it wants to pump, but has to pump against a smaller (and thus higher internal pressure) RV chamber? And the RV hypertrophy will also cause pulmonary hypotension because its not pumping enough blood to the lungs? And systemic hypertension because not enough blood can come back through the IVC and SVC into the failing right... How RVH eventually screws all the other chambers? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hypertension and Fluid Resuscitation
Is hypertension a contraindication for fluid resuscitation? Basic logic would suggest that hypertension is a contraindication to fluid resuscitation b/c extra fluid in the vascular space would increase blood pressure further and put more stress on the heart. I have had a few patients who are febrile with hypertensive blood pressures. It has been told to me that febrile patients require additional fluid. But if the pt's BP is already high should they get fluids? As I was thinking about... Hypertension and Fluid Resuscitation (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Systemic Hypertension
What's the mechamisn for the development of "systemic" hypertension in OSA? In FA it says an increase in pulse pressure is seen in OSA due to increased sympathetic tone, shouldn't it be the vice versa because with an increased symp tone total peripheric resistance will increase... As a whole, what is your mostly prescribed anti-hypertensive drug?
Dear Alll: Hypertension is according to the World Health Organization the number 1 risk factor for death. And every now and then new guidelines from the USA, Europe, Australia, etc.....are issued for hypertension treatment. Good to have your thoughts - and your votes - on this.  All Best, Joey. @jmariofoliveira   (Source: Doc2Doc BMJ Cardiology)
