Dear colleagues, would you consider any special constraints to the esophagus in a patient with secondary esophageal varices to portal hypertension? for example when treating a T3N+ subglottic squamous cell carcinoma with concomitant chemo-radiation. Ty (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Potential Volunteerism include or not
I know this forum has a pretty strong opinion on medical volunteering abroad. I have a one week, 35 hours, experience abroad where I worked with US trained nurses to educate the local population on the basics of hypertension and diabetes, using posters and information from pubmed. There was also one day where we checked blood pressure and blood glucose and got the, again, US-trained nurse to look at the patient, recheck the results, and, refer to the clinic we worked with. I believe I didn't... Potential Volunteerism include or not (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What resources do you use while on the job
Hello everyone, I was wondering what resources do you use when you get various queries from a doctor. For example lets say patient is prescribed X drug but it's not available and you have to suggest a suitable alternative? Also do you have a resource for checking the latest guidelines for various conditions e.g. recommended treatment for hypertension? Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question AKI and HTN
Hi guys, I would like to hear your thoughts in this case: An 80yo patient was admitted into the hospital for AKI and Stage II hypertension. He is on lisinopril, HCTZ, and metoprolol for his HTN. He received 100mL NaCl to relieve AKI, but neither his AKI and HTN were improved. At this point, do you think we should give him Lasix to help with his AKI, or should we give him more fluid? He has no signs of fluid overload. Also, should lisinorpil be held until AKI is resolved? Thanks. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

HPSP Medical Separation
I am in Navy HPSP and today, found out that my medical waivers have been denied. The Navy GME office/Medical Accessions Officer had made it sound like they thought I would be cleared, and stated that if I was cleared, I would be offered an open transitional year position at NMCSD. I have well controlled hypertension on Lisinopril and an ACL surgery in November 2017. My orthopedic surgeon cleared me for all activity. Prior to admittance to the HPSP program, I had ACL surgery on my other knee... HPSP Medical Separation (Source: Student Doctor Network)
