Stereotactic placement of dual lumen catheter system for continuous drainage, irrigation, and intraventricular antibiotic therapy for treatment of brain abscess with ventriculitis - A case report and literature review
CONCLUSION: The use of the dual lumen system represented a significant advancement in this case, addressing the limitations of conventional treatments. Its ability to maintain intracranial pressure within optimal limits while providing localized, continuous treatment was pivotal. This case highlights the potential of the dual lumen catheter in managing complex neurosurgical infections and underscores the need for further research to establish its efficacy in broader clinical applications.PMID:38468682 | PMC:PMC10927178 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_977_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Single institution series describing external ventricular drain (EVD) placement and short- and long-term complications related to placement accuracy
CONCLUSION: In our cohort, although a clear relationship between inaccuracy and complication rates was not found, our data did demonstrate that left-sided EVDs were more likely to fail within the immediate postoperative time point, and patients who died were more likely to have a second, contralateral EVD placed.PMID:38468651 | PMC:PMC10927197 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_894_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Spinal adhesive arachnoiditis after spinal anesthesia complicated by communicating hydrocephalus - A case report
CONCLUSION: AA is a challenging condition associated with inflammation and scarring of the arachnoid membrane. The development of hydrocephalus following epidural anesthesia, in this case, highlights a rare manifestation of arachnoiditis. Further research and documentation are needed to understand better the underlying mechanisms and risk factors contributing to hydrocephalus in the context of AA following epidural anesthesia.PMID:38468646 | PMC:PMC10927229 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_933_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

A challenging case of endoscopic third ventriculostomy
CONCLUSION: We believe that ETV should be carefully indicated in selected patients with Chiari II, post-infectious hydrocephalus, by experienced hands, as the surgical anatomy can be extremely complex and misleading.PMID:38468643 | PMC:PMC10927189 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_905_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)
