Questions on 2018 AADSAS instructions
Hi guys! I was reading the instructions for 2018 AADSAS application, and came across the following instruction for providing info about volunteer experience. Volunteer: Volunteer work done outside of the health care field; for example, working for Habitat for Humanity, tutoring students, participating in or working for a fundraiser walk or blood drive, etc. I volunteered at a hospital as a patient escort, and my duties included discharging patients, and delivering specimens and... Are the 500K+ days in derm over...
Pardon my grave and innate illness of gunneria, but in all seriousness, as you resident studs continue to evaluate your future after residency and/or converse with your fellow peer practicioners, how is the income outlook in derm? I suppose in light of the new health care reform, we will start to see new trends (i.e.- closing down of the solo practicioner era in favor of a multi-specialist approach) that I was just curious as to whether or not that goldmine 500k earning potential was still... Foreign undergrad/non-trad/pre-med advice
I'm 29 years old with foreign undergrad and US masters (Engineering). I have been contemplating medicine for years and always dismissed it as wishful thinking as I'm getting older and realistically have very low chance(or no chance?) of making it. I had ortho surgery recently and had lot of time to contemplate my life decisions. I visited hospital many times this past year and I had huge appreation for everyone who is involved in health care. At this point in my life, I want to give... Foreign undergrad/non-trad/pre-med advice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

When does one need to shadow a doctor, about scribing, and how to find shadowing opportunities?
Two questions: 1. If one has work history in health care, does one need to shadow a doctor? I have worked as a medical assistant and health aide for many years in different part of the country and not recently. I am renewing my certifications and licences so I can return to the medical field after being a decade out from MA. 2. If I do need to formally shadow, how does one go about finding shadowing positions in an area where one does not know any doctors (other than my own GP)? I no longer... Oversaturation of proton centers in US
Protons Beams Zap Cancer With Muni-Bonds as Market Strains Some choice quotes: The rapid expansion has concerned some analysts and health-care experts, who say the market for such clinics is already near saturation and wider expansion of proton treatment overextends the clinical use of the technologyClick to expand... Foreign trained doctors
Why does our country and medical system allow foreign trained doctors to practice and do residency in the US? I understand that the more doctors the better the health-care and competition is good; but, I have already rotated with 2 doctors who did medical school in Europe FOR FREE....so they literally get their "degree" and come into the country and start making the same revenues and income without the debt/investment compared to US trained (who likely starts with $200k debt). See this with... Foreign trained doctors (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Former Professional Soccer Player ...cGPA 3.4
Hi everyone! 26 year old nontraditional student here. Graduated from a 4 year university back in 2013 with a double major in Economics and International Business. After graduating I played professional soccer for a couple years. Unfortunately that got cut short due to injuries. I now own my own business, a restaurant, and am doing well. Over the last year, especially due to my soccer related injuries, I've really developed an interest for the health care world and medicine. After taking... Yale vs. Columbia vs. Northwestern
Hello, everyone. I'm currently trying to decide between Yale, Columbia, and Northwestern. I'm leaning more toward Yale or Columbia, but I'm having some difficulty in choosing. I don't have any financial aid information yet, but I'm hoping to have these schools sorted into some sort of ranking so that I can make the most holistic (I will never escape this word) choice possible. I am extremely interested in health care policy/business, as well as writing within and about medicine. Without... Yale vs. Columbia vs. Northwestern (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mar 7, 2018 The 27-acre Clearwater site where Nova Southeastern University is building a new medical school is little more than dirt now, but within 20 months it is expected to be home to the school’s 325,000-square-foot Tampa Bay regional campus, and the Dr. Kiran C. The regents also approved a new dean position and increased admissions for the OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as a branch campus in partnership with the Cherokee Nation. The class size will increase from 115 medical students per year to 165. "I view it as a game-changer for our medical school," said Regent Calvin Anthony, of Stillwater. Bill proposes mental health exception in felony battery law
What are your thoughts on this? To me, as an inpatient psychiatrist, I would not want my state to provide such an exception to felony assault on a health care worker. The majority of the time charges are pressed for assault it's because of Axis II pathology where the patient has the ability to control themselves but chooses not to do so. Patients in crisis can become felons under battery... Bill proposes mental health exception in felony battery law (Source: Student Doctor Network)
