Effect of cranial electrotherapy stimulation as an add-on therapy on late-life generalized anxiety disorder: An open-label study
CONCLUSIONS: CES clinically reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression and may improve sleep quality in late-life GAD. Future randomized controlled study is needed.PMID:38485555 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.12.002 (Source: J Formos Med Assoc)

Psychological impact of COVID-19 lockdown period on students of healthcare colleges
CONCLUSION: To the limitation of the study, the analysis revealed that COVID significantly influences students' psychological health. Such findings can be used to develop psychological interventions and susceptible populations and execute appropriate mental health policies and programs targeting student communities.PMID:38482299 | PMC:PMC10931893 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_719_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Neurobiology and systems biology of stress resilience
Physiol Rev. 2024 Mar 14. doi: 10.1152/physrev.00042.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStress resilience is the phenomenon that some people maintain their mental health despite exposure to adversity or show only temporary impairments followed by quick recovery. Resilience research attempts to unravel the factors and mechanisms that make resilience possible and to harness its insights for the development of preventative interventions in individuals at risk for acquiring stress-related dysfunctions. Biological resilience research has been lagging behind the psychological and social sciences, but has seen a massive surge in...

Comparing Rates of Mental Health Diagnosis in Adolescents Evaluated at a Community Clinic Versus Detention-Based Clinic: Is Traumatic Stress Still Most Salient?
AbstractAdolescents involved in the juvenile legal system (JLS) have higher rates of mental health treatment needs compared to their non-justice-involved peers, and they experience disproportionate rates of trauma exposure and trauma-related psychosocial concerns. Most research comparing these adolescent groups draws data from separate studies, making it more challenging to understand meaningful differences between the two groups. Research documenting making such comparisons can guide prevention and intervention strategies for communities and their juvenile detention centers.  The current study involves a secondary data ...

Sex-Specific Distributed White Matter Microarchitectural Alterations in Preadolescent Youths With Anxiety Disorders: A Mega-Analytic Study
CONCLUSIONS: In addition to confirming male-specific anxiety disorder-related reductions in UF FA, the results demonstrate that anxiety disorders in boys and not girls are associated with broadly distributed WM alterations across the brain. These findings support further studies focused on understanding the extent to which WM alterations in boys with anxiety disorders are involved in pathophysiological processes that mediate anxiety disorders. The findings also suggest the possibility that WM microarchitecture could serve as a novel treatment target for childhood anxiety disorders.PMID:38476042 | DOI:10.1176/appi.ajp.20221...
