Age-inclusive Arctic outdoor spaces: a policy review in four Nordic countries
The objective of this article is to identify and review the policies related to age-inclusive outdoor spaces in the Arctic regions of Nordic countries. Our analysis focuses on central government white papers that address the older adults in Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland. A review of such policy documents provides insights into the predominant understandings of older adults and healthy ageing. Moreover, such analysis may identify "blind spots" in the national policies, especially regarding the sparsely researched northernmost and rural Arctic territories. Our results demonstrate how the older populations in the Nordi...

Criminal behavior in alcohol-related dementia and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome: a Nationwide Register Study
CONCLUSIONS: Persons with alcohol-related neurocognitive disorders frequently engage in criminal behavior prior to diagnosis, especially multiple offending. In the 4 years before and after diagnosis, crime rates declined in a linear fashion, with a marked reduction after diagnosis.PMID:38613687 | DOI:10.1007/s00406-024-01804-0 (Source: European Archives of Psychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience)

Need for orthognathic surgery in cleft patients from Northern Finland
CONCLUSIONS: The need for orthognathic surgery was greater in the cleft lip palate and cleft palate patient groups compared to cleft lip alveolus or cleft lip groups. This study also found that males from Northern Finland need surgery more often than females.PMID:38605577 | DOI:10.2340/aos.v83.40338 (Source: Acta Odontologica Scandinavica)

Validating nutrient selection for product-group-specific nutrient indices for use as functional units in life cycle assessment of foods
Br J Nutr. 2024 Apr 12:1-23. doi: 10.1017/S0007114524000709. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe ability to provide adequate nutrition is considered a key factor in evaluating the sustainability of foods and diets. Nutrient indices are used as functional units (FUs) in life cycle assessment of foods to include nutritional performance in the environmental assessment of a product. Several general and food group-specific nutrient indices exist but many lack validation, particularly when used as FU. In addition, the nutrient selection strategies and reference units for nutrient intake can vary considerably among studies. To vali...

Lessons from prospective longitudinal follow-up of a French APECED cohort
CONCLUSION: This first prospective cohort showed a high AIRE genotype variability, with two new gene variants. The prevalence of potentially life-threatening non-endocrine manifestations, was higher with systematic screening. These manifestations could, along with age-dependent B-cell lymphopenia, contribute to disease severity. Systematic screening for all the manifestations of the syndrome would allow earlier diagnosis, supporting vaccination, and targeted therapeutic approaches.PMID:38605470 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae211 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
