Prenatal and early life exposure to air pollution and the risk of severe lower respiratory tract infections during early childhood: the Espoo Cohort Study
Conclusions We provide evidence that ambient air pollution exposure during the first year of life increases the risk of LRTIs during the first 2 years of life. SO2, PM2.5 and NO2 were found to contribute the highest weights on health effects. (Source: Occupational and Environmental Medicine)

Circulating cytokines levels and osteoarthritis: A Mendelian randomization study
CONCLUSIONS: Our MR analysis provides suggestive evidence of causal relationships between circulating cytokines and growth factors levels and OA, providing new insights into the etiology of OA.PMID:38677184 | DOI:10.1016/j.cyto.2024.156625 (Source: Cytokine)

Longitudinal leisure-time physical activity profiles throughout adulthood and related characteristics: a 36-year follow-up study of the older Finnish Twin Cohort
CONCLUSIONS: We found several longitudinal leisure-time physical activity profiles with unique changes in both sexes. Fewer profiles in females than in males remained or became low physically active during the 36-year follow-up. We observed that lower education, higher body mass index, and more smoking already in young adulthood were associated with low leisure-time physical activity profiles. However, the fact that several longitudinal profiles demonstrated a change in their physical activity behavior over time implies the potential for public health interventions to improve leisure-time physical activity levels.PMID:3867...

Longitudinal leisure-time physical activity profiles throughout adulthood and related characteristics: a 36-year follow-up study of the older Finnish Twin Cohort
Personalized interventions aiming to increase physical activity in individuals are effective. However, from a public health perspective, it would be important to stimulate physical activity in larger groups of... (Source: International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity)

Survival of endodontically treated teeth in public dental service in Northern Finland: a practise-based register study
CONCLUSIONS: The 5-year survival rate of RCTs seems high. Extractions were more common among patients over 40 years of age and if the RCT was completed shortly after its initiation.PMID:38660831 | DOI:10.2340/aos.v83.40491 (Source: Acta Odontologica Scandinavica)

Long-term cumulative incidence of clinically diagnosed retinopathy in the Finnish Diabetes Prevention Study
CONCLUSION: A higher cumulative HbA1c was significantly associated with a higher risk of retinopathy. No evidence was found for a beneficial effect of a 4-year lifestyle intervention on the long-term occurrence of clinically diagnosed retinopathy during a median of 22-year follow-up.PMID:38661084 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae287 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Are dental care records in childhood associated with financial hardship in adulthood?
CONCLUSIONS: The association between childhood dental care records and adulthood financial hardship mainly reflects the fact that parental socioeconomic status links to dental records. Nevertheless, data from dental care could be used in targeting appropriate measures to prevent financial hardship later in life.PMID:38664862 | DOI:10.1177/14034948241245541 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Public Health)
