Entrustable Professional Activities in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Education: A Faculty Development Construct
Post-graduate residency training follows principles for clinical and didactic education based on accreditation standards and program faculty expectations. Periodic assessments of the resident's path to competencies are part of this educational process. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has branded six core competencies for residents during their clinical training including patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice. Concomitant head or neck injury increases risk of traumatic brain injury in facial fracture patients
Concomitant traumatic brain injury (TBI) is common in facial fracture patients and prompt intervention is crucially important to minimize the risk of potential long-term sequalae. In order to achieve rapid diagnosis, the clinicians need to be aware of the risk factors associated with concomitant TBI and facial fractures. Previous literature suggests that a facial fracture can be considered a significant indicator of TBI. Nevertheless, a large data gap remains on specific injury patterns of facial fractures and associated TBI. (Source: The British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery)

Periapical radiolucency with a non-vital maxillary lateral incisor in an adult female
A 36-year-old female patient was referred to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Showa University dental hospital for evaluation of a painless mass in the left maxilla. The patient's past medical history was unremarkable, and she denied any dental trauma or history of pain. Although there was no facial asymmetry, intraoral examination revealed the presence of a bony bulge in the anterior region of the left maxilla (Figure 1A). The mass was covered with normal mucosa and was not tender. (Source: Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontics)

A Reproducible Peritonsillar Abscess Incision and Drainage Model for Junior Trainees
CONCLUSIONS: Our model offers an affordable and efficient training opportunity for residents to enhance their competence in managing PTAs. This approach, with its simple yet effective design and low production cost, shows potential for scalability on a broader scale.PMID:38682302 | DOI:10.1177/00034894241249611 (Source: The Annals of Otology, Rhinology, and Laryngology)

Rational timepoint of medical rehabilitation in chronic tinnitus : Applying for rehabilitation options for a  chronic course
HNO. 2024 Apr 29. doi: 10.1007/s00106-024-01473-4. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChronic tinnitus is a common symptom of the auditory system. A causal therapy does not yet exist. The recommended treatment includes expert counseling, psychotherapeutic interventions, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, and measures to improve hearing. The treatment modules are multimodal and can be combined individually. Depending on the severity of the different disease dimensions (tinnitus and comorbidities), a rehabilitative approach may be useful for maintaining health and occupational ability. In addition to a thorough and well-f...
