A prospective 5-year longitudinal study detects neurocognitive and imaging correlates of seizure remission in self-limiting Rolandic epilepsy
CONCLUSIONS: There is evidence for altered development of neocortical regions between active seizure state and seizure remission in RE within two clusters maximal in the left-orbitofrontal and pre-central gyrus. There is significant evidence for improvement in motor coordination between active seizures and seizure remission and suggestive evidence for a decline in fluid intelligence and gains in auditory processing.PMID:37619460 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2023.109397 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Long-Term Visual and Neurodevelopmental Outcomes in Two Children with Congenital Nystagmus Secondary to Methadone Exposure In utero
This report highlights the long-term visual and developmental outcomes of two children exclusively exposed to methadone underlining the possibility of a visual dysfunction and motor coordination disorder. These observations prompt the need to investigate prenatal drug exposure as a cause of congenital nystagmus. Visual and kinesthetic motor imagery in adults with different degrees of self-reported motor coordination difficulties
Hum Mov Sci. 2023 Aug 10;91:103137. doi: 10.1016/j.humov.2023.103137. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDevelopmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) involves difficulties in performing coordinated movements with fine and/or gross motor skills deficits. Several studies showed that DCD is characterized by motor imagery deficits as well. Here we investigated in neurotypical adults (N = 334) the relationships between the ease of imaging two main motor imagery components, that is the visual and the kinesthetic one, self-reported motor coordination difficulties and handwriting speed. Self-reported motor difficulties were measured by th...

"It feels as though I need to exert more effort than others": the experience of daily participation of young adults with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) - a qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Individuals with DCD may benefit from intervention during young adulthood to enhance their well-being. The interventions should target their subjective occupational experiences in addition to their objective performance difficulties, by enhancing their psycho-social resources.PMID:37567872 | DOI:10.1080/09638288.2023.2246376 (Source: Disability and Rehabilitation)

Opposing effects of ecdysone signaling regulate neuroblast proliferation to ensure coordination of brain and organism development
Dev Biol. 2023 Aug 5:S0012-1606(23)00140-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ydbio.2023.08.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGrowth regulation must be robust to ensure correct final size, but also adaptative to adjust to less favorable environmental conditions. Developmental coordination between whole-organism and the brain is particularly important, as the brain is a critical organ with little adaptability. Brain growth mainly depends on neural stem cell (NSC) proliferation to generate differentiated neural cells, it is however unclear how organism developmental progression is coordinated with NSCs. Here we demonstrate that the steroid ho...

Brain Network Organization and Aging
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1419:99-108. doi: 10.1007/978-981-99-1627-6_8.ABSTRACTDespite recent substantial progress in neuroscience, the mechanisms and principles of the complex structure, functions, and the relationship between the brain and cognitive functions have not been fully understood. The modeling method of brain network can provide a new perspective for neuroscience research, and it is possible to provide new solutions to the related research problems. On this basis, the researchers define the concept of human brain connectome to highlight and emphasize the importance of network modeling methods in neuroscience. For...
