Fats and oils - a scoping review for Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023
Food Nutr Res. 2024 Feb 9;68. doi: 10.29219/fnr.v68.10487. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTThis scoping review for the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations 2023 summarizes the available evidence on fats and oils from a food level perspective. A literature search for systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses was conducted in PubMed. There are few SRs and meta-analyses available that investigate the association between fats and oils (food level) and health outcomes; the majority report associations at the nutrient level (fatty acid classes). All identified SRs and meta-analyses were of low methodological quality, thus the findings and...

Diverse impacts of red palm olein, extra virgin coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil on cardiometabolic risk markers in individuals with central obesity: a randomised trial
ConclusionThe three oils, each of which has unique phytonutrient and fatty acid compositions, manifested statistically similar cardiometabolic effects in individuals with central obesity at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases with distinct circulating antioxidant properties.Clinical trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05791370). The key role of unsaturated olefin content on polysulfides prepared via inverse vulcanization of waste plant oils for mercury removal from wastewater
This study demonstrates that utilizing waste plant oils as monomer crosslinking agents to synthesize adsorbents for Hg2+ removal is feasible and effective.PMID:38363504 | DOI:10.1007/s11356-024-32452-5 (Source: Environmental Science and Pollution Research International)

A supercritical fluid co-extract of turmeric powder and dried coconut shreds shows neuroprotection against AlCl < sub > 3 < /sub > -induced Alzheimer's disease in rats through nose to brain delivery
This study was aimed at investigating the neuroprotective potential of a co-extract obtained by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) of turmeric powder and dried coconut shreds against aluminium chloride (AlCl3)-induced Alzheimer's disease (AD) in male Wistar rats. Fifty animals were allocated to five groups, which received saline (vehicle control, group 1), a combination of saline and aluminium chloride (AlCl3) (disease control, group 2), coconut oil (COO) (SFE extracted, treatment group 3), turmeric oleoresin (Cur) (SFE extracted, treatment group 4) and SFE co-extract of turmeric powder and coconut shreds (CurCOO) (treat...

Incorporation of bioactive glass-ceramic into coconut oil for remineralization of incipient carious lesions
This study evaluated the efficacy of incorporating different concentrations of bioactive glass-ceramic (Biosilicate) into coconut oil on the remineralizing potential and surface roughness of white spot lesions. Fragments (6 x 6 x 2mm) of bovine teeth were sectioned and initial microhardness (KHN) and surface roughness (Ra) readings were obtained. The samples were submitted to cariogenic challenge to form white spot lesions and were separated into six groups (n=13): 1) Artificial Saliva (AS); 2) Coconut Oil (CO); 3) CO+2% Biosilicate (CO+2%Bio); 4) CO+5% Biosilicate (CO+5%Bio); 5) 2% Biosilicate Suspension (2% Bio) and 6) 5...
