Prevention and Management of Wound Infections in Burn Patients
The leading cause of morbidity in burn patients is infection with pneumonia, urinary tract infection, cellulitis, and wound infection being the most common cause. High mortality is due to the immunocompromised status of patients and abundance of multidrug-resistant organisms in burn units. Despite the criteria set forth by American Association of Burn, the diagnosis and treatment of burn infections are not always straightforward. Topical antimicrobials, isolation, hygiene, and personal protective equipment are common preventive measures. Additionally medical and nutritional optimization of the patients is crucial to revers...

Texture analysis using short-tau inversion recovery magnetic resonance images to differentiate squamous cell carcinoma of the gingiva from medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw
ConclusionNon-contrast-enhanced MRI texture analysis revealed differences in texture parameters between mandibular SCC and mandibular MRONJ. MRI texture analysis can be a new noninvasive quantitative method for distinguishing between SCC and MRONJ. (Source: Oral Radiology)

Difficulty in management of acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic: A case report
We present the first case of COVID-19-associated acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis found in Indonesia. The risk factors for the disease include corticosteroid use and antibiotic use. The case was complicated with left orbital cellulitis and cerebral abscess. Difficulty of management in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic includes hesitancy of the patient to seek medical care and the availability of surgical team for COVID-19-positive patients. Monitoring of corticosteroid and antibiotic use must be emphasized during the pandemic. Awareness of the disease needs to be increased in Indonesia.PMID:38046461 | PMC:PMC10689...

Cellulitis is Frequently Misdiagnosed
Clinical question: How accurate is the initial diagnosis of cellulitis in adult patients compared to subsequent specialist consultation? Dr. Lessing Background: Diagnosis of cellulitis leads to an estimated 650,000 hospital admissions annually. As a clinical diagnosis—with no definitive confirmatory laboratory, microbiologic, or imaging result—cellulitis is frequently misdiagnosed, leading to diagnostic delay, as well as unnecessary cost, antibiotics, and hospitalization. The authors sought to determine how often the initial diagnosis of cellulitis might be incorrect when compared to subsequent specialist reviews as ...
