Analysis of Children and Adolescents with Diagnosis of Cashew Nut Allergy
The prevalence of cashew nut allergy has been increasing and children are at risk of anaphylaxis. We analyzed the clinical features and diagnosis of 62 children with cashew nut allergy who presented to Pediatric Allergy Clinics between 2018-2021. (Source: Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology)

Treatment of Single and Multiple Food Allergies with ADP101: Results of the Harmony Phase 1/2 Trial
The phase 1/2 Harmony trial (NCT04856865) evaluated ADP101, a pharmaceutical-grade, investigational multifood oral immunotherapy (mOIT) for simultaneous treatment of allergy to 1-5 foods in ADP101 (almond, cashew, chicken ’s egg, codfish, cow’s milk, hazelnut, peanut, pecan, pistachio, salmon, sesame, shrimp, soy, walnut, wheat). Clinical and Mechanistic Findings from MOTIF Trial: A Phase 2 Study Using Food Allergen Oral Immunotherapy for Cashew or Shrimp Allergy
Despite the success of peanut oral immunotherapy (OIT), there is little insight into the safety, efficacy, and immune underpinnings of OIT to treat cashew or shrimp allergy. (Source: Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology)

Food- induced anaphylaxis with initially negative, but subsequently positive IgE sensitization.
A 15-year old patient presented with a recent episode of anaphylaxis after ingesting cashew containing food, accompanied by a strong positive prick test. Our patient had abstained from tree nut- containing foods after experiencing a similar episode 10 years ago after a walnut ingestion, but with negative skin prick and imunoCAP test. This prompted us to conduct a literature review to investigate how minimal or negative sensitization at the onset of the clinical symptoms can be associated with observable clinical reactions, and how sensitization may increase even in the absence of consuming allergen-containing foods. Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 149: Quantitative Detection of Thitsiol and Urushiol as Markers from the Gluta usitata Lacquer Tree Using HPLC
In this study, Myanmarese lacquer sap collected from Gluta usitata, which contains thitsiol as the main component, was analyzed by HPLC to quantify thitsiol using the standards 3-(10-phenyldecyl) benzene-1,2-diol (thitsiol 16) and 3-(8Z,11Z-pentadecadienyl)-benzenediol (urushiol 15:2) as markers, and calibration curves were plotted. The coefficients of determination (R2) for thitsiol 16 and urushiol 15:2 were 0.9985 and 0.9983, respectively. In addition, a blind test was conducted to confirm that accurate quantitative analysis was possible even when Myanmarese lacquer was mixed with lacquer from another production area, wh...

Mixed nut consumption improves brain insulin sensitivity: a randomized, single-blinded, controlled, crossover trial in older adults with overweight or obesity
CONCLUSIONS: Longer-term mixed nut consumption affected insulin action in brain regions involved in the modulation of metabolic and cognitive processes in older adults with overweight/obesity. Intrahepatic lipid content and different cardiometabolic risk markers also improved, but peripheral insulin sensitivity was not affected.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT04210869 (ClinicalTrials.gov).PMID:38128733 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2023.12.010 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Use of essential oils from plants of Araripe National Forest against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
Braz J Biol. 2023 Dec 4;83:e275062. doi: 10.1590/1519-6984.275062. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTAedes aegypti control is achieved with chemical insecticides that can promote insecticide resistance. In the search for new forms of control, the use of botanical products is currently growing and many tests with oils have already been performed. The plant diversity of Araripe National Forest enables the study of several species against this vector. To evaluate the larvicidal effect of essential oils from plants of this forest, we used field rosemary, copaiba, bay leaf, cashew and pequi. The work was divided into three stages: all o...
