Food- induced anaphylaxis with initially negative, but subsequently positive IgE sensitization.

A 15-year old patient presented with a recent episode of anaphylaxis after ingesting cashew containing food, accompanied by a strong positive prick test. Our patient had abstained from tree nut- containing foods after experiencing a similar episode 10 years ago after a walnut ingestion, but with negative skin prick and imunoCAP test. This prompted us to conduct a literature review to investigate how minimal or negative sensitization at the onset of the clinical symptoms can be associated with observable clinical reactions, and how sensitization may increase even in the absence of consuming allergen-containing foods.
