Immune evasion of stem cells in health and cancer
The Agudo lab is focused on the study of immune evasion of stem cells in both autoimmunity and cancer. Our goal is to identify targets to protect tissues for regeneration as well as mechanisms to ensure effective responses to immunotherapy in cancer patients. Dr. Agudo has recently discovered a population of quiescent cancer stem cells in breast cancer that survive during T cell attack and lead to resistance to immunotherapy.Air date: 11/29/2023 4:00:00 PM (Source: Videocast - All Events)

40 Years of Cancer Epigenetics Symposium
Forty years ago, Drs. Andrew Feinberg and Bert Vogelstein observed that levels of DNA methylation, an epigenetic modification now known as a critical modulator of gene expression, were significantly reduced in cancer cells when compared to normal cells. This landmark discovery is considered by many to be the birth of the field of cancer epigenetics. Since that time, this transformational research area has exploded and there no doubt regarding the importance of these phenomena. There have been foundational studies leading to groundbreaking discoveries that span benchtop to bedside. Cancer therapeutics that target epigenetic...

Advancing Health Equity Through Culture-Centered Dietary Interventions to Address Chronic Diseases Virtual Workshop (Day 2)
Goals and Key Audience: Objectives: 1. Identify gaps and opportunities for research on the cultural adaptation of evidence-based dietary approaches (e.g., DASH and Mediterranean Diet) to address diet-related diseases in racial/ethnic populations; 2. Understand dietary acculturation and its influence on the development and effectiveness of dietary interventions among diverse immigrant populations; 3. Interrogate the influence of dietary acculturation on the gut microbiome, and understand gut microbiome response to traditional and evidence-based diets. Need and Justification: Adherence to evidence-based dietary approaches, s...
