Use of asprosin and subfatin for differential diagnosis of serous ovarian tumors
Biotech Histochem. 2022 Oct 25:1-7. doi: 10.1080/10520295.2022.2135763. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAsprosin (ASP) and subfatin are hormones that regulate glucose metabolism. The role of ASP and subfatin in serous ovarian tumors has not been investigated. We investigated the expression of subfatin and asprosin in 30 serous benign, 30 serous borderline, 30 malignant and 30 control ovarian tissues. We investigated ASP and subfatin immunoreactivity and quantification was achieved using an ELISA method. ASP and subfatin were localized in the epithelial parts of normal ovarian tissues; however, in cancer tissues, immunoreacti...

Prognosis and Prognostic Factors of Serous Borderline Tumor-Micropapillary Variant: Retrospective Study of 200 Patients with Long-Term Follow-Up
CONCLUSIONS: In this series, patients with SBOT-M have an acceptable oncofertility outcomes. The use of conservative surgery was independently associated with worse DFS, but without an impact on neither invasive relapse nor on overall survival. Patients with advanced FIGO stages had a significantly higher risk of lethal recurrence and worse overall survival, suggesting that adequate staging surgery and intensive postoperative surveillance should be warranted.PMID:36262351 | PMC:PMC9576405 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1655422 (Source: Journal of Oncology)

Management of borderline ovarian tumors: A tertiary referral center experience in Egypt
CONCLUSION: Borderline ovarian tumors still represent a dilemma either in diagnosis or management. A frozen section examination could help to reach a preliminary diagnosis. Total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy are the cornerstone of surgical management; however, fertility-sparing surgery could be a valid option for women desiring fertility.PMID:36117821 | PMC:PMC9478369 | DOI:10.3389/fsurg.2022.962820 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Low BRCA1/2 germline mutation rate in a French-Canadian population with a diagnosis of epithelial tubo-ovarian carcinoma
CONCLUSION: In our French-Canadian population, the incidence of deleterious germline BRCA mutations was surprisingly low at 5.4%-less than half that reported in the literature. This may affect patient response to poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor (PARPi) therapy. Mainstream genetic testing was successfully implemented in our service and facilitated access to genetic testing in our patient population.PMID:35948169 | DOI:10.1016/j.jogc.2022.06.012 (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada : JOGC)

Magnetic resonance imaging findings of cystic ovarian tumors: major differential diagnoses in five types frequently encountered in daily clinical practice
AbstractThere are many types of ovarian tumors, and these different types often form cystic masses with a similar appearance, which can make their differentiation difficult. However, with the exclusion of rare ovarian tumors, the number of ovarian tumors encountered in daily practice is somewhat fixed. It goes without saying that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful for differentiating ovarian tumors. In this review, we summarize the differential diagnoses for each of the five types of MRI findings commonly encountered in daily practice. First, unilocular cystic masses without mural nodules/solid components include b...

Promising Therapeutic Impact of a Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulator, Fulvestrant, as Demonstrated In Vitro upon Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Carcinoma Cell Lines
Curr Oncol. 2022 Jun 1;29(6):4020-4033. doi: 10.3390/curroncol29060321.ABSTRACTFew studies have reported hormonal agent use in the treatment of low-grade serous ovarian carcinomas (LGSOCs), which are chemoresistant. Considering the need for novel effective therapies, we investigated the hormone receptor expression and hormonal inhibition efficacy in LGSOCs. Using immunohistochemistry, we assessed the estrogen receptor (ER) expression status in 33 cases of histologically confirmed serous ovarian tumors, including 10, 11, and 12 cases of LGSOCs, serous borderline tumors (SBTs), and serous cystadenomas (SCAs), respectively. T...
