Evaluation of ocular neuropathic pain
CONCLUSION: Ocular pain questionnaires can potentially diagnose ocular neuropathic pain. Disease-specific questionnaires are limited to their target populations, and non-disease-specific ophthalmic questionnaires are unreliable. Further studies are required to determine the most appropriate questionnaire to evaluate ocular neuropathic pain.PMID:37748645 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtos.2023.09.009 (Source: The Ocular Surface)

Dupilumab induced ocular surface disease: A prospective case series
CONCLUSIONS: DIOSD is not uncommon although, with timely referral and appropriate topical treatment better clinical outcome and patient satisfaction can be achieved without the need to discontinue Dupilumab. Prior allergic conjunctivitis did not affect the incidence or severity of DIOSD. Further prospective studies with longer follow-up and more focus on possible disease mechanism such as goblet cell related changes and immune response are needed.PMID:37644849 | DOI:10.1177/11206721231199155 (Source: European Journal of Ophthalmology)

Treatment of pediatric ocular rosacea: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: Systemic antibiotics, led by doxycycline, were the most commonly reported treatment modalities for pediatric ocular rosacea. Increased awareness of ocular rosacea in this population is crucial for earlier diagnosis.PMID:37596128 | DOI:10.1016/j.annder.2023.05.004 (Source: Annales de Dermatologie et de Cenereologie)

Meibomian gland dysfunction and blepharitis – common and still unsolved ophthalmic problem
Blepharitis and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) are very common, usually under-diagnosed and under-appreciated diseases. More than 50% of patients seeking ophthalmological consultations have symptoms and signs indicating one or both entities. Herein we summarize the key points of diagnosis and management of both diseases, comparing the work of Dry Eye Workshop II (2017) together with the Dry Eye Blepharitis Syndrome unification theory. The impact of MGD/blepharitis on ocular surgery is also described. (Source: Clinics in Dermatology)

Chronic Eyelid and Ocular Itch
Chronic eyelid and ocular itch affect many patients seeking dermatologic or ophthalmologic care, and have a high burden on patient quality of life. Clinicians should consider the broad range of possible diagnoses when approaching the patient with itch of the eyes or eyelids lasting more than six weeks. Allergic conjunctivitis and allergic contact dermatitis are the most common causes of chronic itch of the eyes and eyelids, respectively. Other diagnoses to consider include atopic dermatitis, xerosis, neurogenic itch, dry eye syndrome, seborrheic dermatitis, blepharitis, rosacea, lichen simplex chronicus and papulosquamous ...

It generally follows a chronic course and is frequently associated with objective and/or subjective symptoms such as epiphora, red eye, dandruff, gritty sensation, itching, burning, photophobia, and blurred vision. The purpose of this study is to analyze the prevalence of Demodex spp. in patients with symptoms of chronic blepharitis. An analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in the period between 2016 and 2020. ...
