Separation of 90Nb from bulk yttrium target using two food derived alkaloids
AbstractnatY was irradiated with 34  MeV α-particles to produce90Nb. Separation of90Nb from bulk yttrium target was carried out using two naturally occurring alkaloids namely caffeine extracted from black tea leaves and piperine extracted from black pepper, both of which are commonly used in everyday household. In both the cases, SLX was opted as caffeine was insoluble in 2  M Na2SO4 and piperine in HCl of varying concentration.90Nb was preferentially extracted by caffeine and piperine precipitate and bulk yttrium remained in supernatant. DFT calculations suggest the preferential binding of90Nb to different binding site...

A rapid aroma quantification method: Colorimetric sensor-coupled multidimensional spectroscopy applied to black tea aroma
Talanta. 2023 May 5;263:124622. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.124622. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAroma affects the quality of black tea, and the rapid evaluation of aroma quality is the key to realize the intelligent processing of black tea. A simple colorimetric sensor array coupled with a hyperspectral system was proposed for the rapid quantitative detection of key volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in black tea. Feature variables were screened based on competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS). Furthermore, the performance of the models for VOCs quantitative prediction was compared. For the quantitative prediction...

3D printed cartridge for high-speed capillary electrophoresis with sheath liquid thermostatting and contactless conductivity detection
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Jul 11;1264:341235. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341235. Epub 2023 Apr 29.ABSTRACTThe high-speed capillary electrophoresis (HSCE) method is a technique that utilizes a high electric field strength applied through a short capillary to reduce the time required for sample separation. However, the increased electric field strength may result in pronounced Joule heating effects. To address this, we describe a 3D-printed cartridge with integrated contactless conductivity detection (C4D) head and a sheath liquid channel. The C4D electrodes and Faraday shield layers are fabricated by casting Wood's metal in chamber...

Black tea bioactive phytoconstituents realign NRF2 for anticancer activity in lung adenocarcinoma
Constitutive activation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) is pivotal in bestowing therapy resistance in cancer cells. Several phytochemicals have been reported with the potential of modulating NRF2. Therefore, it was hypothesized that NRF2-deregulated chemoresistance in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) may be counteracted by theaflavin-rich black tea (BT). A non-responsive LUAD cell line, A549, was the best sensitized towards cisplatin upon pre-treatment with BT. BT-mediated NRF2 reorientation was observed to be dependent on concentration and duration of treatment as well as on the mutational profile of NRF2 ...

Theaflavin mitigates acute gouty peritonitis and septic organ injury in mice by suppressing NLRP3 inflammasome assembly
In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effects of theaflavin against NLRP3 inflammasome activation in macrophages in vitro and in animal models of related diseases. We showed that theaflavin (50, 100, 200 μM) dose-dependently inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation in LPS-primed macrophages stimulated with ATP, nigericin or monosodium urate crystals (MSU), evidenced by reduced release of caspase-1p10 and mature interleukin-1β (IL-1β). Theaflavin treatment also inhibited pyroptosis as shown by decreased generation of N-terminal fragment of gasdermin D (GSDMD-NT) and propidium iodide incorporation. Consistent with...

Comparison of Essential and Toxic Metals Levels in some Herbal Teas: a Systematic Review
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2023 May 17. doi: 10.1007/s12011-023-03698-w. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the present study, we reviewed the literature as a systematic review to investigate the concentration of some metals (essential, none essential, and toxic metals) in herbal teas and their health risks. The search extended the literature from the database, including Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus, using the terms "herbal teas" combined with "heavy metals, essential metals, thyme, rosemary, chamomile, and tea" also with "iron, zinc, aluminum, chromium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, arsenic, cadmium, and lead" in titles and ab...

Comparison and Effect of Common Beverages on Color Stability of Different Esthetic Restorative Materials: An < em > In Vitro < /em > Study
CONCLUSION: All tested ceramic materials had better color stability compared with composite resin. All the staining beverages used in the current study might cause a significant color change in the tested restorative materials.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The color stability of esthetic restorative materials affects their clinical performance in the oral cavity, where the restorative materials are usually exposed to staining beverages that are frequently consumed by patients. Therefore, it is important to understand the staining effect of the different beverages on esthetic restorative materials.PMID:37073930 | DOI:10.5005/jp-jo...
