Supporting evidence-based rotavirus vaccine introduction decision-making and implementation: Lessons from 8 Gavi-eligible countries
We report on the RAVIN approach, describe how the project responded collectively to an evolving RVV product landscape, synthesize common characteristics of the RAVIN country experiences, highlight key lessons learned, and outline the unfinished agenda to inform future new vaccine introduction efforts by countries and global partners.PMID:38042696 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.11.035 (Source: Vaccine)

Voltammetric techniques for low-cost on-site routine analysis of thymol in the medicinal plant Ocimum gratissimum
Talanta. 2023 Nov 21;269:125411. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2023.125411. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe composition of essential oils varies according to culture conditions and climate, which induces a need for simple and inexpensive characterization methods close to the place of extraction. This appears particularly important for developing countries. Herein, we develop an analytical strategy to determine the thymol content in Ocimum Gratissimum, a medicinal plant from Benin. The protocol is based on electrochemical techniques (cyclic and square wave voltammetry) implemented with a low cost potentiostat. Thymol is a phenol...

Community evaluation of the physical and insecticidal durability of DuraNet ® Plus, an alpha-cypermethrin and piperonyl butoxide incorporated mosquito net: protocol for a multi-country study in West, Central and East Africa
ConclusionThis large-scale multi country trial will provide useful information on the durability of a pyrethroid-PBO net (DuraNet ® Plus) in 3 different regions in sub-Saharan Africa. The methods proposed for bioefficacy testing could also contribute towards the development of new standardised guidelines for monitoring the insecticidal efficacy of pyrethroid-PBO nets under operational conditions. Declines in Influenza Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel in Acute Care Hospitals During the COVID-19 Pandemic - United States, 2017-2023
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2023 Nov 10;72(45):1244-1247. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7245a6.ABSTRACTHealth care personnel (HCP) are recommended to receive annual vaccination against influenza to reduce influenza-related morbidity and mortality. Every year, acute care hospitals report receipt of influenza vaccination among HCP to CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). This analysis used NHSN data to describe changes in influenza vaccination coverage among HCP in acute care hospitals before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Influenza vaccination among HCP increased during the prepandemic period from 88.6% during 2017-18 t...

Prevalence and determinants of high-risk human papilloma virus among men who have sex with men in Benin: a cross-sectional study embedded in a demonstration project on pre-exposure prophylaxis against HIV
Conclusions In Benin, anal HR-HPV was common among HIV-negative men who have sex with men. Among this highly vulnerable population, there is a need for integrated preventive and management strategies targeting HPV and other sexually transmitted infections. (Source: BMJ Open)

Agro-morphological and structural diversity of rice germplasm revealed by SSR markers in Benin Republic
CONCLUSION: This study showed that Beninese rice germplasm was divided into two structures: phenotypically similar cultivars but genotypically distinct (homonyms), and phenotypically different cultivars but genotypically similar (synonyms). Some local cultivars such Bagou19, Bagou20 and Koud44 can be used for large scale production due to their agronomics and molecular traits. The molecular structure obtained in this investigation might be used for future conservation and breeding programs.PMID:37924445 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08874-8 (Source: Molecular Biology Reports)
