Protein and Brain Health: What to Know
In this study of over five hundred seniors, those who consumed 120 grams of protein daily had lower levels of amyloid-beta than those whose daily intake was only fifty-four grams. But that’s not all. Another study of 920 seniors showed that those who follow a high-protein diet, along with plenty of leafy greens and healthy fats, also had a decreased risk of dementia and improved cognitive function. Unfortunately, it’s not entirely clear how protein influences the level of amyloid-beta in the brain. Some believe it’s the effects of a high-protein diet for lowering blood pressure and improving heart health. In ge...

How Much Do Federal Liberals, NDP, Conservatives And Greens Care About ADHD?
There will likely be a Canadian federal election called tomorrow. I’m a political science major whose hobby is politics. I had to get a separate politics twitter account @pqpolitics because I was putting so much politics on my ADHD twitter account @petequily. So being the curious type, I did site search in Google for ADHD on each of the websites of Canada’s 4 main federal parties, Liberals, NDP, Conservatives and Greens to see how often they mentioned the word ADHD in their websites. Anyone can do #PretendingToCare about Mental Health, but what matters is policy. What are their actual policies on the biggest ment...

“This Doesn’t Usually Hurt that Much”: Patients With Fibromyalgia Spectrum Disorder
By HANS DUVEFELT Specialists in orthopedics and general surgery often want us, the primary care doctors, to manage postoperative pain. I don’t like that. First, I don’t know as much as the surgeons about the typical, expected recovery from their procedures. My own appendectomy in Sweden in 1972 was an open one that I stayed in the hospital for several days for (and nobody mentioned that there were such things as pain medications). I’m sure a laparoscopic one leaves you in less pain, but I don’t personally know by how much. Postoperative pain could be an indicator of complications. Why would a surgeon not w...

Creating a Sustainable Life in Autism Adulthood Parts 1 and 2
Please enjoy my July 2021 Psychology Today piece. I’m hoping to do a series covering a few different ways that we are preparing for the future when we are no longer able to be Nat’s guardians. We are slowly breaking in Nat’s two younger brothers, Max and Ben, to the concepts of SSI, ISP, group home life and day program happenings, which I’ve covered here, in Psychology Today June 2021. I’m also recording other strategies I have found helpful, to come. (Source: Susan's Blog)

The treatment of autistic people and people with learning disabilities
This report on the treatment and care of autistic people and those with learning disabilities has found that a lack of adequate community provision has led to many experiencing unnecessary admissions to and intolerable treatment in inpatient facilities. “Legislative advocacy has become difficult for the severe autism population since the DSM-5 lumped Asperger ’s syndrome with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Further complicating the matter, a new population recently emerged who identify as “autistic” without having a diagnosis from a qualified health care professional. Without a clear distinction for various parts of the spectrum, weRead more …Find jobs at  Careers by KevinMD.com.  Search thousands of physician, PA, NP, and CRNA jobs now.  Learn more.
