Please help! Blogger attacks doctors & nurses.
by CaribMD (Posted Sun Mar 20, 2016 5:32 pm)Many people are so full of themselves its unbelievable. That so called expert has failed to do his homework, insurance companies are the cause for the high cost of healthcare, denying claims for no reason, slow to pay claims, requiring documentation that is so complicated at times that care is delayed and patients health is put at risk, requiring Prior Authorization for needed treatments and procedures that would prevent further costly care. Does it cost more to provide singular and prevent Asthma attacks daily or to hospitalize a person with status asthmaticus in the ICU for a w...

Question re: dexamethasone for asthma exacerbations
Hi, I'm not sure where to go for this but thought someone in this forum could direct me. I am on rotations at a children's hospital and was tasked with finding out what other hospitals are doing for children who come in for asthma exacerbations. At our hospital based upon the severity of exacerbation, we give 2 doses of dexamethasone separated by 24-36 hours. Most of the time they are discharged with an outpatient script for the second dose, but a lot of the time they don't get the Rx filled... Asthma and how it will affect my Med. School Education
Hello everyone, I have Asthma. It has been under control for some years but after studying for the MCAT, school, and during the application process (stress) some of my symptoms came back. I have my inhalers and medication, which they do help, but the psychological impact is still there. I feel like I will never be able to study once med school starts or practice in a specialty that is full of stressful situations without the need of an inhaler. I do live a healthy lifestyle and maintain an... Asthma and how it will affect my Med. School Education (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bronchoscopy Question
My 17 month old son has a CRMS dx (df508 + a "varying consequence" mutation and negative sweat). We switched clinics about 4 months ago. Our new clinic felt that my son's health history and culture history warranted a bronchoscopy. Last Wednesday he had the bronch as well as an endoscopy and an Infant PFT. Normally they have you return 2 weeks post procedure but because of the holiday it looks like we may not be getting in until sometime next month. I've asked the nurse to talk to our pulm about getting us results over the phone at least - we'll see if it happens - but in the meantime I have a couple questions...

should I push for testing?
Ok, I have never done this before, but I need some advice. A little bit of history-my husband(27) had very frequent lung infections as a child. His bedsheets always had a salt residue on them from his night sweats(which he still has). They had him tested for cf, but his results were borderline, & he was never retested. The summer before we got married(he was 20 years old), he ended up in the ER for diagnosed pleurisy. From that point on, he has had a chronic cough, & allergy symptoms that don't ever go away. Fast forward to current. He is exhausted. He can't sleep at night, & his sinus infections will not go aw...

Diagnosed at 36
Hi everybody, I joined the forum when i was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis this summer, but for some reason I couldn't post under my old screen name. I was diagnosed in July after my pulmonologist did a full panel of bloodwork. I had previously passed 2 sweat tests. I have moderate bronchiectasis and am culturing m. absessus. I spent 4 weeks on iv antibiotics this summer and got pancreatitus as a side effect. This was my drs big hint. As i said in the title i am 36yo. I had no idea anything was wrong with my lungs till i got pregnant with my now 4yo son(carrier-d1125h). At 5 weeks pregnant i had my first and only re...

Daughter has PCD- Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia
I recently posted a thread about my 7 year old daughter. She has symptoms of CF but very low sweat test results. One of you nice people posted about PCD- and that is exactly what the Pulmo Dr thinks she has. Everything that is written about PCD relates it to CF and says the treatment is identical and problems are similar- just caused by different disease. No wonder it was so confusing! She's have CT of lungs next week, along with bronchoscopy. We're starting the acapella device today. Saline breathing treatments. Continued treatment for asthma- although at the moment the immunologist and pulmonologist think she m...

Could it be CF in my 14 yo?
My son is 14 years old, weighs 78 lbs and is 4'10". He has had a cough for 2 years now and asthma among other things have been ruled out. He has had pneumonia twice and bronchitis once in this time. He is currently under the care of an endocrinologist because of his growth issues. He is falling farther and farther behind. His latest labs show his FSH to be very low and his LH to be low but not out of range. His vitamin D level continues to stay low despite supplements for the last year. It is currently at 21. He has always struggled with constipation and very large BM's. As an infant he had the same cough he has now ...

Super dry cough at night
Has anyone else ever had a bad dry cough at night? It doesn't wake me up. It's when I wake up to go to the bathroom. My chest is super tight and then I start coughing until I bring something up or move the junk around which is usually really thick at night... I am also 5 mths pregnant which could be some of the problem. I also have asthma to. Any suggestions on how to help would be great thanks. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Adults Forum)

So confused....no diagnosis...stop looking?
Looking for confirmation my 8 year old daughter doesn't have cf. Wondering what is going on. Has environmental allergies (as shown on skin tests 2x). Diagnosed with asthma 2 yrs ago due to cough...no wheeze ever. Last school year had bacterial pneumonia in Sept (x-ray at er) and bacterial pneumonia in May (2 night hosp stay). Possible pneumonia in mid June...treated but no x-ray. In past has seen GI for possible reflux and genetics b/c she didn't sweat. Sweating has slowly started and they think possible connective tissue disorder. Recurrent pneumonias have lead to numerous tests. She's been doing really well sinc...

Asthama and PFT?
I'm hoping our resident expert (Dot the darling!) can help with this but wanted to post instead of PM in case others have similar questions but also in case others have ideas based on their clinic's handling. DS has just figured out the spirometer and in prep for next week's quarterly I wanted to see what how things changed pre and post brochialdialtor. When he was an infant and they did the "plastic box" test he had a pretty sharp improvement after the Xopenex which they said indicated an asthmatic component. he's been on Qvar daily for a couple years when he had a cough with running. So I'm wondering if tha...

Negative sweat test but lots of mucus
Well our 7 year old daughter came back negative on sweat test. Which is a relief but leaves me puzzled. My neice is a carrier. We just found that out. My daughter has to "heeeave" throughout the day, every day, to work up the mucus and spit it out. It is just part of our daily life. I just don't know what else would be causing all this chest mucus? Any ideas? I hear it is very rare to get false negative on sweat test, even for an atypical cfer. Perhaps her original diagnosis of asthma is correct? I just don't know. We've watched videos of asthma and CF on YouTube together. The asthma videos she...
