Covid exposure
So I was called to intubated a patient in the middle of the night, 30 something, obese, found unresponsive, ED tried unsuccessfully, I go down and do intubation while CPR is paused. Nobody in gowns, ED people have N95 with regular mask over it. I totally forgot to wear an N95, must have been in a sleep state because it completely passed my mind. I had assumed it was an overdose or something, I ask the ED people after I leave they say no, asthma attack. I ask them to test for Covid. what do... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

USUHS and asthma
Hey everyone, I currently interviewed for USUHS and I did my physical examination. I reported I had mild childhood asthma but I still have an inhaler just in case of emergencies. I’m a former collegiate div 1 athlete and I received a DQ for asthma after the age of 13. I’ve had no asthmatic episodes since I was 6 and I was wondering if it’s possible to receive a waiver for a situation like this. I’m also confident in my ability to pass a PFT. What does the waiver process look like? Also my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1 week to study for NAPLEX help
So the inevitable procrastination bug hit me after school and now there is only a week left for me to study for the NAPLEX. Finally opened the RxPrep textbook but besides math, HIV, and oncology, what other sections are recommended to study? Should I just start doing practice questions? I feel pretty confident in the key disease states from school like diabetes, CVD, asthma/COPD. But are there a lot of compounding, and other random things on there? Just wondering what other people did to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Current PharmD student wanting to pursue PhD
A little about myself: I'm a P2 with IHS (this summer's IPPE), compounding pharmacy and retail experience. I have great leadership experience with NCPA and APhA and am highly involved in student organizations. I also have research experience in immunotoxicology (pathways in asthma biochemistry) and some chem labs (organic synthesis) although I have not been published, plus this summer I'm working with a PharmD to publish a few meta-analyses/lit reviews in psych pharmacy. I think I would... Current PharmD student wanting to pursue PhD (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Will an Asthma Diagnosis Keep me out of MSSP?
I mentioned in my personal statement that I had "childhood asthma." I had a visit with my GP last year and asked them to re-evaluate my diagnosis - she stated that I do not have a current diagnosis of asthma. This is contrary to my pediatrician who had in my record for my whole life that I had asthma. I have not required an inhaler before/after exercise pretty much ever. I have used one PRN but those times were usually when I was also sick with something like bronchitis. I ran... Will an Asthma Diagnosis Keep me out of MSSP? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Severe intraoperative bronchospasm
Too many details to discuss, but essentially a known asthmatic had severe bronchospasm on induction, lungs do tight CRNA could hardly ventilate. By the time I arrived, pt blue, sats 19 and could hardly move air. Albuterol has been attempted to delivered unsuccessfully. I bolused 10mcg of epi incrementally until it cleared up. Extubated and did fine. One of my partners then asked why I didn’t give Sux to break the bronchospasm. I had never considered giving Sux unless there...
