Asthma doctors
I wanted to know if any of you know an excellent asthma specialist in the new york city area. The cf clinics can only do so much with severe asthma issues. Need to have someone who really understands asthma and all it's complications. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Asthma, Allergies and Green Forum)

Allergies with low IGE
My scratch are positive for a large number of allergies, but my bloodwork shows my IGE level is very low. My daughter has the same allergy and blood test results. My sinus CT scan shows lots of mucus from allergies too. So does anyone else have this? I have been reading about non-iGE mediated allergies and that they are treated with mast cell stabilizers such as Zyrtec and Chromolyn Sodium. I found Nasalcrom nose sprey over the counter with Chromolyn Sodium as the active ingredient. I tried the Nasalcrom nose spray and Zyrtec and they seem to be working. I am not a medical person, so if anyone has experience with th...

Smoking Pot/RSO Oil
I have been using Rick Simpson Oil now for 3 weeks and I have seen some amazing results.http://phoenixtears.ca/ I have also been smoking Marijuana for a year now. Ive found that it breaks and forces that mucus up. Sure the coughing hurts and is certainly not fun but if you can tough out the painful part smoking gets easier over time and the pain relief is almost instant! Anyone else experiencing great results with Marijuana use? I was not ever officially diagnosed with CF we started to suspect I had it a year ago. Over time I noticed my "asthma" attacks getting worse and worse and it feels like I have a lung infe...

Reactions to Ceftazidime
Hi, I'm new here and have never posted before, so I hope I'm doing the right thing?!?!? My daughter (16yo with CF) was in hospital last week having IV Ceftazidime and Tobramycin to treat pseudomonas. I was wondering if anyone has had a reaction to Ceftazidime? She has previously had other medications, but this time and last year when she was in, she seemed to have a reaction of some sort, to something. The doctors suggested it to be a viral thing, "perhaps she caught a bug just before coming in to hospital". However, every other time she has been admitted to hospital she's felt fine, it's only been these las...

Stuck on what to do
Hey guys, was hoping I could get a bit of insight. Last year I applied to both Lambeth & City & Islington access courses. I didn't get on either. The City and Islington one didn't give any feedback but Lambeth rejected on the basis that even though my maths test score was high enough, my GCSE wasn't! They said come back next year with a GCSE Maths grade B or alternatively you can do it with us for something like £800! Safe to say I was pretty peed off. So the last year I have been trying to reassess my options. I applied AGAIN for both access courses and applied to do a GCSE maths qualification which was due to s...

colloidal Silver?
Hello All! This is my first time posting, but I am desperately trying to find information about colloidal silver. There is some talk bubbling up among my Cf community about nebulizing colloidal silver, so I wanted to get a feel for it from y'all. I've been trying to find research on the issue but all I can come up with is claims by the actual companies selling the product. I will admit I am very skeptical, so this post will reflect my fear. Please know I am not trying to offend anyone or start an argument, but I would like to see some healthy debate on the issue. I think we can be adults and not get everyone's ire up...

what to learn while in the ED
I'm in the ED this month. What should I focus on to maximize applicable knowledge for this upcoming July when I start radiology? Kind of tired of seeing febrile kiddos, flu, copd exacerbations, asthma exacerbations, chest pain... The true emergencies are cool, but the lower acuity stuff, what should I try to focus on and see in particular? (Source: Student Doctor Network Forums)

What are you allergic to?
Just curious as to what things--meds, foods, animals, plants--you're allergic too (not sensitive/intolerant).

My only allergy is Sulfa medications, which kinda stinks since a few drugs used to treat CF related things require Sulfa drugs. Apparently when I was a baby it made me break out in hives...

But! I decided to have my allergy tested, so right after this round of IV's is up it's off to the allergist! BTW, I love how they want to "test" it. I.e. crush up a sulfa pill and give me tiny bits until I break out. Very sophisticated.
<div...

Fev's up but switching meds??

Hi! It's been a while since I have posted anything but I always read these forums. I was wondering, my daughter's pfts were the best they have ever been at fev 112%. I was floored!! She had just been on prednisone for 5 days but still! Anyways, she keeps having episodes of needing to be on steroids so the pulmo thinks we need to change her meds from advair to symbicort. What I dont understand is why if her pfts were so good? Why would she keep having these "episodes" if her asthma is improving?? Or if her lungs were so open and clear??

Short history: She ...
