Increased risk of bleeding during abdominal dermolipectomies in men: Myth or reality?
CONCLUSION: This study shows the excess morbidity in men, particularly haemorrhage, after abdominoplasty. This underlines the importance of a rigorous haemostasis and follow-up in this at risk population.PMID:36966095 | DOI:10.1016/j.anplas.2023.02.001 (Source: Annales de Chirurgie)

Abdominoplasty and Clitoris Evaluation: A Prospective Study on Sexual Pleasure in Women Undergoing Abdominoplasty
ConclusionOur results show that abdominoplasty is associated with an increase in sexual satisfaction. The changes in the post-operative position of the clitoris were not statistically significant, contrarily to the size of the prepubic fat area, which was significantly modified and could partially explain the improved sexual pleasure. Authors were unable to statistically demonstrate a correlation between those anatomical modifications and sexual pleasure.Level of Evidence IVThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Effects of diep flap-based breast reconstruction on respiratory function
Breast reconstruction (BR) is an essential part of breast cancer treatment, and DIEP flap is considered the gold standard reconstruction technique, which uses a free abdominal flap. Concerns have been raised regarding the effects of abdominoplasty on respiratory functions. This topic has not been addressed regarding donor-site closure of DIEP flaps. Our aim is to prospectively compare pre- and post-operative spirometry in patients undergoing DIEP flap-based BR, investigating its impact on respiratory function. Does Scarpa's Fascia Preservation in Abdominoplasty Reduce Seroma? A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: The preservation of Scarpa's fascia during an abdominoplasty procedure should be considered as a routine practice, as it has been shown to result in reduced seroma incidence rates and faster drain removal.PMID:36747469 | DOI:10.1093/asj/sjad024 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Concurrent abdominal body contouring and hernia repair is a safe choice: An analysis of the 2015-2020 ACS-NSQIP database
Concurrent hernia repair (HR) with abdominal body contouring procedures (ABD), panniculectomy and abdominoplasty, has been discussed as a strategy. The purpose of this study is to evaluate potential medical and surgical complications following concurrent ABD-HR with a greater emphasis on cosmetic abdominoplasty. Metabolic Changes After Surgical Fat Removal: A Dose –Response Meta-analysis
We read with great interest the article by Badran et al. regarding the metabolic changes after surgical subcutaneous fat removal (SFR).1 They reported beneficial effects from their dose-response meta-analysis of 22 eligible studies with 493 participants. Specifically, they showed that SFR, either by liposuction or abdominoplasty, significantly improves the insulin sensitivity for at least 6  months after surgery, while transient beneficial effects are anticipated in body mass index, blood pressure, leptin, and TNF-α serum concentrations. The preoperative risk factors for hematoma development following postbariatric abdominoplasty: a retrospective analysis of 178 patients
ConclusionsIt can be concluded that patients undergoing bariatric surgery are more likely to develop hematomas. Postabdominoplasty hematomas were more likely to develop in smokers, men, and those with a lower BMI. These risk factors should be considered and optimized by surgeons when counseling patients preoperatively.Level of evidence: Level V, risk/prognostic study.
