A Systematic Review of the Effectiveness of Bisphosphonates for Otosclerosis

Conclusion: There is insufficient evidence to recommend the routine use of bisphosphonates in otosclerosis patients at present. Long-term retrospective data has suggested a role for bisphosphonates in the subset of patients with deteriorating sensorineural hearing loss with the aim of hearing stabilisation. Adequately powered RCTs with long term follow up will be required to evaluate this further.
