Ischemic acute pancreatitis with pancreatic pseudocyst in a patient with abdominal aortic aneurysm and generalized atheromatosis – case report

Conclusion: Ischemic pancreatitis is a rare condition but should be considered in a patient with upper abdominal pain and elevated amylase in the context of an abdominal aortic aneurysm and generalized atheromatosis.

This study compares the rate of bone integrity and bone resorption of the coracoid process, and the clinical outcomes after the Bristow procedure in 61 shoulders and the Latarjet procedure in 44 shoulders with at least one year of follow-up. CT scans showed 98% of bone union of the coracoid process within 3 months after the Latarjet procedure, but only 78% of bone union, 15% of delayed union, and 7 % of fracture of the coracoid in the Bristow procedure, 6 months after surgery.

Rotator cuff tears (RCTs) are often associated with severe shoulder pain. However, the mechanism of pain in RCTs is still unknown. In recent years, it has been reported that various neuropeptides, including calcitonin gene-related peptides (CGRP), are involved in knee and hip pain. To reveal the novel mechanism for pain caused by RCTs, we investigated the expression of neuropeptides in a rat RCT model.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) possess anti-inflammatory properties and tissue differentiation potential. We prepared a rat shoulder arthritis model by injecting monoiodoacetate (MIA) into the shoulder and investigated the intraarticular administration of MSCs from the aspects of the cartilage protective effect associated with the cell ’s anti-inflammatory activity and inhibition of the central sensitization of pain. When MIA was administered in this model, anti-calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) was expressed in the shoulder joint and C5 spinal dorsal horn.

This article provides a review of the preclinical and clinical pharmacology of lorcaserin, including its pharmacokinetic and safety profiles. Preclinical studies with lorcaserin initially focused on simple measures of food intake and body weight gain, but have now expanded to include studies on its effects on appetitive aspects of feeding behaviour and models of binge-eating. A significant number of studies have also shown that lorcaserin alters behaviours related to drug use and addiction, in rodents and non-human primates. Potential clinically-relevant effects of lorcaserin have also been reported in models of pain and s...

ConclusionThe anti-inflammatory effects of X. aethiopica leaves are demonstrated experimentally, thus substantiating its use in folk Medicine. Relevantly, the observed anti-inflammatory properties can stimulate further studies in order to fully unveil the therapeutic potential of the plant, namely as sources of phenolic compounds with a significant ability to interfere with conventional inflammatory targets.Graphical abstract

Abstract Workflows based on gas and liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for the identification of toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids present in plants were developed and applied to Echium plantagineum L., Boraginaceae, extracts. GC – MS based determinations need reduction and derivatization steps prior to MS analysis, which is performed using a Full Scan and Single Ion Monitoring sequence for screening, identification and quantification purposes. The LC – (ESI) – MS/MS determination was performed directly from the extract without derivatization. Acetyl lycopsamine, echimidine, echimidine N-oxide...

Abstract The species Kalanchoe laciniata (L.) DC. and Bryophyllum pinnatum (Lam) Pers. are native from Brazil and Madagascar, respectively. Both belonging to the Crassulaceae family and being widely used by population as a natural anti-inflammatory agent. These species have similar leaf morphology and for this reason, they are known by the same popular name as “ sai ão ” or “ coirama ” . Several studies have been published involving different parts and preparations of these species. Therefore, this review aims to provide an update overview about the traditional uses, chemical constitution, ph...
