Dyslipidemia is a common risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) [1, 2]. A fasted lipid profile characterized by increased fasting serum total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs), or low serum high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels are associated with an increased risk of CVD [3]; environmental and genetic factors both affect the levels of serum lipid concentrations [4].
