Health-related quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes initiating a second-line glucose-lowering therapy: the DISCOVER study
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is associated with microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy) and macrovascular (coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and peripheral arterial disease) complications [1 –4]. Both T2D and its associated complications can reduce health-related quality of life (HRQoL) [5–7], which refers to an individual’s perception of physical, emotional and social functioning in relation to health status. Furthermore, diabetes is associated with depression and disease-related stress [8–10].
