Continuous Ilioinguinal Nerve Block for Treatment of Femoral Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Cannula Site Pain

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is used for oxygenation or circulatory support and can provide a bridge-to-transplantation in critically ill patients. In awake patients on ECMO, ambulation is important for preoptimization before transplantation but may be prohibited by discomfort from the cannula sites. A 47-year-old female, with severe cardiopulmonary dysfunction resulting from progression of interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and right-sided heart failure, required initiation of venoarterial ECMO.
