Association between family history of lung cancer and lung cancer risk: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers, resulting in 1.76 million deaths worldwide in 2018 [1]. Risk factors of lung cancer include tobacco smoking, environment tobacco smoke (passive smoking), occupational exposures, air pollution, diet such as red meat, previous respiratory diseases, and genetic susceptibility [2 –4]. Tobacco smoking was identified as the major risk factor for lung cancer, however, despite successful efforts to reduce tobacco smoking, there was no significant reduction in lung cancer cases globally in the past decade [3,5].
