Global Metabolomics in Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplant Recipients Discordant for Chronic Graft-versus-Host Disease
Chronic graft-versus host disease (cGVHD) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality for up to 70% of patients receiving allogeneic (allo) hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) [1,2]. A syndrome that presents with clinical findings resembling autoimmune and immunological disorders such as scleroderma, wasting syndrome, and bronchiolitis obliterans, cGVHD may affect any body system including the liver, lungs and gastrointestinal system [3]. Risk factors for the development of cGVHD include older age of the donor and the recipient at the time of allo-HCT, human leukocyte antigen mismatch between the donor and the recipient, a female donor for a male recipient, and history of acute GVHD [4 –7]
