Chronic Pain? Don’t Make a Meal Out of It

I chat with and hear from many other people who live with chronic pain. Like any other jolt in life, we each react differently when we’re shaken up, according to our attitude, our families and our physicians. I am constantly amazed by the reactions, the sorrows and the amazing joys in my own life and in others. These vessels, these bodies we walk around in are fragile and destined for extinction. Once we accept that fact, it makes the whole process of suffering chronic daily pain so much simpler to deal with. The suffering is not going to last forever; neither are the joys, the opportunities and experiences. There is a tiny secret in all of this misery many of us share and one I’d like to share with you, just in case you haven’t found it yet. The secret is like finding a key to a locked treasure box. It’s not a bit complicated; it costs nothing and is universally available. It doesn’t care what kind of insurance you have, where you live, whether you are rich or poor, male or female and your age is of no significance. No, it’s not chocolate. Therefore I must add, it is not fattening, although it can be a bit addictive. The key is to keep your pain in its proper place. It is only pain. It isn’t your loved one, your master or servant and definitely, it is not your friend. It can; however be your teacher, if you allow it to be.
