Inferior Vena Cava Stenosis After Bicaval Orthotopic Heart Transplantation
END-STAGE HEART DISEASE is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States, with 870,000 new cases diagnosed annually.1 Despite maximal pharmacologic therapy, there often is disease progression and half of the patients with heart failure will die within 5 years of diagnosis.1 Given the high mortality, patients need options that extend beyond pharmacologic intervention. Heart transplantation is one of the options that improves survival, with a median survival after transplantation of 9.5 years.
