Burn injury outcome differences in Native Americans

Native Americans (NAs) have a lower life expectancy than non-Native Americans (non-NAs) in the United States: 73.7years versus 78.2years respectively. Heart disease, malignant cancer, and chronic lower respiratory diseases are common causes of death in both Native and non-Native populations. However, NAs die at higher rates than non-NAs due to other causes such as liver disease and cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome, unintentional injuries, assault/homicide, and intentional self-harm [1].
