Effects of rhTSH-Aided Remnant Tissue Ablation with Low Dose I-131 on Salivary Gland Function in Patients with Thyroid Cancer

Conclusions: Although frequency of the event seems fewer than that with high-dose therapy, remnant ablation with rh-TSH stimulation and low dose I-131 may occur subsequent salivary gland damages. However, it is highly likely that risk for permanent xerostomia is very low with low dose RIA. Further study with larger population will be warranted to determine the effect of low dose RIA on salivary gland function.
