Obstructive sleep apnea in non-dialyzed chronic kidney disease patients: association with body adiposity and sarcopenia
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a breathing disorder characterized by narrowing of the upper airway that impairs normal ventilation during sleep [1]. OSA is considered a public health problem due to its high prevalence that has been estimated as 22% in men and 17% in women in the general population [2] and due to its association with increased morbidity and mortality in the short term (traffic and job related accidents) [3,4] and the long term (cardiovascular diseases; CVD) [5-6].
