Human haematological and epithelial tumor-derived cell lines express distinct patterns of onco-microRNAs.

In this study, we analysed differences in miRNA expression profile between haematological and epithelial tumor-derived cell lines and explored their role in definying different cancer cells phenotypes. Cancer Focus microRNA PCR Panel was used to analyze eighty-four oncomiRNAs in two human haematological (K562 and HL-60) and in two epithelial (H460 and MCF-7) cancer cell lines. Bioinformatic tools were used to identify miRNA-specific signatures and to discover potentially deregulated pathways. Our analysis led to the identification of i) a large repertoire of miRNAs commonly expressed in the four cell lines, including two equally highly expressed (UPmiRs) and four equally low expressed (DNmiRs); ii) two miRNAs signatures, one associated with the haematological and one with the epithelial cell lines; iii) miRNA signatures specific for the acute or for the chronic myeloid leukemic cells; iv) miRNA signatures specific for the lung or for the breast carcinoma cells. As a whole, these results strengthen the significance of miRNAs profiling in human cancer subtyping, providing the ground for the identification of novel potential biomarkers for specific cancer cell phenotypes. Abstract The molecular pathogenesis and classification of colorectal carcinoma are based on the traditional adenomaecarcinoma sequence, serrated polyp pathway, and microsatellite instability (MSI). The genetic basis for hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer is the detection of mutations in the MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2, and EPCAM genes. Genetic testing for Lynch syndrome includes MSI testing, methylator phenotype testing, BRAF mutation testing, and molecular testing for germline mutations in MMR genes. Molecular makers with predictive and prognostic implications include quantitative multigene reverse transcriptas...

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are poised to provide diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets for several diseases including malignancies for precision medicine applications. The miRNAs have immense potential in the clinical arena because they can be detected in the blood, serum, tissues (fresh and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded), and fine-needle aspirate specimens. The most attractive feature of miRNA-based therapy is that a single miRNA could be useful for targeting multiple genes that are deregulated in cancers, which can be further investigated through systems biology and network analysis that may provid...

CONCLUSION: Since cardiac tamponade is generally not suspected as a cause of hemodynamic instability after a lung lobectomy, as it was in this case, a misdiagnosis of the patient's condition may have led to improper management resulting in death. As anesthesiologists are often involved in the initial resuscitation of morbid patients in Post-Anesthesia Care Units, their acquaintance with various postoperative complications and competence in echocardiography for assessing cardiac problems may contribute to patient survival. CONCLUSION Cognitive impairment can affect daily functioning, quality of life, and capacity to work in patients with cancer and those in remission. Consequently, cognitive assessment is now an important and necessary part of a comprehensive oncological care plan. Cancer-related cognitive impairment might be due to the direct effects of the cancer itself, nonspecific factors, or comorbid conditions that are independent of the disease and/or due to the adverse effects of the treatment or combination of treatments given for the disease. The prevalence and extent of cognitive impairment associated with cancer is recognized but...
