Value of Portable Perfusion Scans in the Immediate Post-Operative Period Following Lung Transplantation

The lung allograft is dependent on the vascular supply to the transplanted lung which may be compromised during the surgical procedure. Arterial blood gases and portable chest x-rays may be poor predictors of the vascular supply in the immediate post-operative period. Perfusion lung scans may non-invasively assess the perfusion and physiological function in the immediate post-operative period and detect reversible vascular problems. The aim of this study was to illustrate the use and impact of the perfusion scan in the immediate post-operative period.
