Editorial Commentary: Resistant hypertension: Pathogenesis and current and future management
Hypertension and its target organ damage, such as cardiac (coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and sudden cardiac death), renal (renal insufficiency and failure), and cerebrovascular (thrombotic and hemorrhagic stroke) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality. In addition, the prevalence of hypertension is increasing dramatically worldwide, especially in low and middle income countries, and is estimated to affect over 1 billion individuals. Nearly, 40 million Americans have hypertension.
