41-Year-Old Woman With Ascites
A 41-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with 2 weeks of worsening dyspnea on exertion and abdominal swelling. She was becoming short of breath walking to her bathroom. She noticed a yellowish discoloration in her eyes over the past week. The patient was a Mexican immigrant with limited medical records. Reported medical history included atrial flutter, congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, and hypothyroidism. Home medications included furosemide, levothyroxine, propranolol, and spironolactone.
