Timing of Stroke in Children Supported by Ventricular Assist Devices - An ACTION Registry Report

Purpose: Ventricular assist devices (VADs) are frequently utilized for long-term support for children awaiting heart transplantation (HT). Despite significant improvements in recent years, neurological events remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality during VAD support. We aimed to identify the timing of ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (IS and HS) during VAD support in children as a foundation for building upon mitigation strategies already accomplished within the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Network (ACTION).
