Non-esterified erythrocyte linoleic acid, arachidonic acid, and subjective sleep outcomes

In the groundswell of interest in the effects on human health of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), few studies have examined the effects of PUFAs on sleep. Sleep is critical to immune function, cardiovascular health, mood control, and brain function. And because PUFAs regulate cellular function, cell signaling and gene expression [1], it is likely that sleep's physiological functions are modified by the bioavailability of PUFAs and their potent derivatives.
