Exposure to psychotropic drugs and breast cancer risk in patients with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder: a nested case-control study
This study aimed to assess such risk among women with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). A nested case-control study design was used with data obtained from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. Logistic regression analysis with adjustments for demographic characteristics, medical and mental comorbidities, and all-cause clinical visits was performed to estimate the risk of breast cancer according to the cumulative defined daily dose (cDDD) of psychotropic drugs. The study included 1564 women with MDD or BD who had breast cancer, and 15,540 women with MDD or BD who did not have brea...

Viruses, Vol. 16, Pages 545: Fluoxetine and Sertraline Potently Neutralize the Replication of Distinct SARS-CoV-2 Variants
Oliver Witzke Stephanie Kadow Markus Kamler Erich Gulbins Katrin Anne Becker Adalbert Krawczyk The pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 is still a major health problem. Newly emerging variants and long-COVID-19 represent a challenge for the global health system. In particular, individuals in developing countries with insufficient health care need easily accessible, affordable and effective treatments of COVID-19. Previous studies have demonstrated the efficacy of functional inhibitors of acid sphingomyelinase against infections with various viruses, including early variants of SARS-CoV-2. This work investigated whet...

Combining SSRIs With Oral Anticoagulants Found to Increase Risk of Major Bleeding
People who take serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and oral anticoagulants have an increased risk of multiple types of major bleeding compared with people who take only oral anticoagulants, astudy inJAMA Network Open has found. The study findings also showed that bleeding risk differs depending on the type of anticoagulant.Christel Renoux, M.D., Ph.D., of Jewish General Hospital in Montreal and colleagues examined data from 331,305 patients in the United Kingdom aged 60 years or older who had atrial fibrillation and began taking oral anticoagulants between January 2, 1998, and March 29, 2021. The researchers included an...

The Effect of Anti-Depressants on Dental Implant Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The current review demonstrates the use of anti-depressants, such as SSRIs, may increase the risk of dental implant failure at both patient level and implant level. Although limited evidence suggests that a certain type of SSRI (sertraline) may have more influence on implant failure than other SSRIs, future studies are needed to warrant this finding.PMID:38498803 | DOI:10.11607/jomi.10798 (Source: International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants)
