Intraoperative Chest Xray Prior to Use of Newly Inserted IJ or Subclavian Central Line
Our pediatric anesthesia group has recently been asked how we confirm correct central line placement when we've inserted them in a jugular or subclavian vein in the operating room. Apparently there have been a few central lines recently in our children's hospital that have been placed too deep resulting in atrial ectopy in one case and SVT in another. I might be wrong, but I get the sense that we are going to be asked to get intraoperative chest films on all of these patients before using... EHR certified Web/Cloud based dental management software
Hi guys, I'm applying for EHR incentive program for my dental office. I'm looking for an EHR certified Web/Cloud based dental management software. I want to store all info on the web, e.g dental x-rays, notes, etc. I have a gendex intraoral sensor now. Ideally, I want my sensor to be compatible with the new software. Please share your thoughts with me Thanks Jeff (Source: Student Doctor Network)

As an aspiring dentist, what aspects of the job should I focus on to stay motivated?
It's been 2 weeks on the job as a dental assistant in a pediatric dental office. I have a very good handle of my responsibilities already. However, I find the job itself getting monotonous (i.e. bringing patients into their assigned rooms, taking bite wings and pano x-rays of the teeth, replacing trays, autoclaving basic routine instruments, assisting with suction and procedures) I'm sure you get the idea . It's been a challenge to see the bigger picture for myself while I'm on the job.... As an aspiring dentist, what aspects of the job should I focus on to stay motivated? Hidden dangers for the slim
I have grown old - unavoidable. i have not grown fat over the years - avoidable. What interests me is how I am being put at relative risk as well as inconvenience by the latter.  2 examples in health care. 1) For x-rays the standard exposure means an overdiagnosis of bone thinning. This led to bone densitometry - with the verdict that bones better than average for age. 2) For some drugs the dose is administered depending on the eGFR but this test seems very poorly understood and bodyweight is a crucial part of it. The problem is that the lab value is based on a weight I have never achieved even at my heaviest and my...

should I push for testing?
Ok, I have never done this before, but I need some advice. A little bit of history-my husband(27) had very frequent lung infections as a child. His bedsheets always had a salt residue on them from his night sweats(which he still has). They had him tested for cf, but his results were borderline, & he was never retested. The summer before we got married(he was 20 years old), he ended up in the ER for diagnosed pleurisy. From that point on, he has had a chronic cough, & allergy symptoms that don't ever go away. Fast forward to current. He is exhausted. He can't sleep at night, & his sinus infections will not go aw...

ABPA + Lung infection = pulse dose of steroids + IV antibiotics..
Has anyone been on a "pulse" dose of steroid to help with antibiotics/abpa? It seemed to do some good, but holy crap was that an awful experience. The dose in the hospital made me incredibly awake and wired. I slept for maybe 3 hours each of the three nights, and then I was released shortly after the third dose to resume my antibiotics at home. It was brutal just trying to get my brain to work to get medications together and get my way home. I cultured my typical pseudomonas (and something new), with a huge drop in lung function and x-ray that showed a large portion in my large airway covered in a giant mucus pl...

zythromax long term?
Hi. No diagnosis yet for my 8 yr old daughter. Just had more blood work done today. Waiting on results of PCD panel. Depending on results, will see CF doc in WI or head to indy or cincy. So, daughter was sick recently. Xray showed probable partial lung collapse and possible pneumonia again. Trying to get sputum sample from her. Pulm wants her on zythromax MWF all winter. I don't know what dose but pharmacy double checking before dispensing b/c high dose. I guess this is used as preventative for inflammation. Anyone heard of this? More lung scarring
I got chest x rays and the tech let me see. I noticed more lung scarring, although, I was a tad confused with everything because it didn't look a whole like my last chest X-ray. But from what I saw, I had a lot more lung scarring. What does this mean? What do I need to do to prevent further scarring and damage? Any way to fix what has been done, any what so ever, even if its small???? I'm scared to hear the results which will take till Tuesday or so. (Source: Cystic Fibrosis Exercise and Fitness Forum)

Bowel Movement issues
Hi everyone! So our baby is now 3.5 months and we're dealing with bowel movement issues that she's been experiencing since she was 3 weeks old. She poops only twice a week--on the third day. Her NP and dietitian have been watching it, recommending prune juice and at our last appt her dietitian wanted to introduce miralax. However, her NP was uncomfortable with that because she is so young so she encouraged me to continue trying to give her prune juice. Unfortunately, she just doesn't like it and won't take it. She had an xray last month and while there was a moderate amount of stool, there was no blockages. Since we...
