Smoking cessation and its significant role in the Indian scenario
Monaldi Arch Chest Dis. 2023 Dec 4. doi: 10.4081/monaldi.2023.2814. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGiven the increased health dangers of tobacco use, particularly in developing countries, smoking cessation intervention is crucially important. The aim of this study is to determine and assess the effectiveness of a comprehensive smoking cessation intervention program, incorporating behavior modification, counseling, and pharmacologic treatments, in the context of the Indian scenario. The process of initiating smoking or tobacco cessation begins with the evaluation of the distinct stages that smokers undergo as part of their j...

Characterisation of CYP2B6 and CYP2A6 pharmacogenetic variation in sub-Saharan African populations
This study therefore aimed to characterise the star allele (haplotype) distribution in CYP2B6 and CYP2A6 across diverse and understudied sub-Saharan African (SSA) populations. We called star alleles from 961 high-depth full genomes using StellarPGx, Aldy and PyPGx. In addition, we performed CYP2B6 and CYP2A6 star allele frequency comparisons between SSA and other global biogeographical groups represented in the new 1000 Genomes Project high-coverage dataset (n=2000). This study presents frequency information for star alleles in CYP2B6 (e.g. *6 and *18; frequency of 21-47% and 2-19%, respectively) and CYP2A6 (e.g. *4, *9 an...

Effects of pre-gestational exposure to the stressors and perinatal bupropion administration on the firing activity of serotonergic neurons and anxiety-like behavior in rats
In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of pregestational chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) and perinatal bupropion on the anxiety behavior and firing activity of the dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) serotonin (5-HT) neurons. Female rats underwent CUS for three weeks before mating. Bupropion was administered to them from gestation day ten until their offspring were weaned. Behavioral (elevated plus maze or EPM test) and neurophysiological (single-unit in vivo electrophysiology) assessments were performed on offspring who reached the age of 48-56 days. We found that maternal CUS and perinatal bupropion, as separate fa...
