Intraoperative Regional Cerebral Oxygenation During Pediatric Thoracoscopic Surgery: A Systematic Review
Conclusion: In this review, pathological cerebral desaturation was noticed in 13.1% of the pediatric thoracoscopic procedures. However, due to limited methodological quality of the included studies, further randomized multicentric studies comparing rcSO2 in open versus thoracoscopic surgeries are needed to derive definitive conclusions.PMID:37862569 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2023.0228 (Source: Adv Data)

Hospital Variation in Mortality and Failure to Rescue after Surgery for High-Risk Neonatal Diagnoses
CONCLUSIONS: Significant variation in neonatal hospital mortality for high-risk diagnoses does not appear to be explained by hospital structural characteristics. Rather, difference in FTR suggests quality improvement interventions targeting early recognition and management of postoperative complications could improve surgical quality and safety for high-risk neonatal care.PMID:37844560 | DOI:10.1159/000533825 (Source: Neonatology)

A Case of Asymptomatic Tracheoesophageal Fistula
Ear Nose Throat J. 2023 Oct 13:1455613231200810. doi: 10.1177/01455613231200810. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) is an abnormal flow between the esophagus and the trachea. Most patients with TEF experience severe symptoms. Asymptomatic TEF is rare. In this case report, a 47-year-old woman planned to undergo orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia. She had no symptoms related to TEF, and the preoperative chest computed tomography was also normal. However, there was significant airway resistance after induction. Using a fiber bronchoscope, a TEF was discovered. The TEF found after anesth...

Diagnosis and management of congenital type D esophageal atresia
This study was performed to describe the current clinical practice and outcomes of type D esophageal atresia. We retrospectively analyzed 10 patients who were diagnosed with type D esophageal atresia and underwent esophageal atresia and tracheoesophageal fistula repair in the Capital Institute of Pediatrics and Beijing Children ’s Hospital from January 2017 to May 2022. Ten patients include three newborns and seven non-newborns. Seven (70%) cases were misdiagnosed as type C esophageal atresia before the first operation. Three neonatal children underwent thoracoscopic distal tracheoesophageal fistula ligation and esophage...
