Delaying a Cycle to Pursue a Research Opportunity
Hi everyone, I'm struggling with a career decision. I am being offered the opportunity to work on a clinical-translational stem cell project with an expert physician in the field. I am only mentioning the type of research as my long-term interest has always been to pursue stem cell / regenerative medicine. I did basic stem cell research in undergrad and found a genuine passion for it -- I love doing this kind of work. I will be working alongside several fellows and have a great networking... MD/PhD Questions: Stem Cell / Regenerative Medicine
Hello everyone, I'm considering pursuing an MD/PhD in order to study Stem Cell / Regenerative Medicine. I was wondering if the community could help me out with a few questions: 1) Which programs / schools would you recommend for this field of study? 2) I am nearing publication, which may not be accepted by the time I submit my primary application. How should I address this in my application? 3) Are there any particular specialties that seem more... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do failed MILD, Vertiflex, and Minuteman count as FBSS in SCS Algorithm?
What about failed Intracept and Intra-discal stem cells too? Do these count as "failures" worthy of proceeding with SCS especially if the patient is already on opioids? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Regenexx
Pain peeps - can someone give me a non-biased review/view on Regenexx? I take it they are stem cells. Is this the Centeno company? Can someone give me a non-political, objective review of this and how it works? Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

UNC v UMich v Vanderbilt
Hi everyone! I currently having a hard time making a decision between three schools. Important factors to me are ample research opportunities in my area (stem cell bio), support from MSTP leadership, good student outcomes, and living environment/cost of living. University of Michigan Pros - Lots of research in my area - Top Internal Med residency program - Strong Match List -Curriculum seems more flexible with quizzes -One full year of rotations prior to starting Phd Cons -Expensive... Do we need to know "science" for our interviews?
I see a lot of interview questions on SDN mention stem cells? Our we expected to have some background knowledge on science topics. Cause I know very little about stem cells for example, besides some come from lab-created fertilzed eggs which causes controversy. But if I am hit with any more detail, I'll be stumped. Are there some science topics I should be looking up? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Pursuing Regenerative Medicine as a Physician-Scientist
Hey all, I'm extremely interested in pursuing a physician-scientist approach towards regenerative medicine, and I want to get an education that specializes me in this broad research field -- with particular interest in regenerative cardiology and neurology. There are obviously other reasons for my wanting to become a physician, instead of just getting a Ph.D, but those details are irrelevant for my questions. I have a research background with cardiac stem cells. 1) Would it be worth my... Pursuing Regenerative Medicine as a Physician-Scientist (Source: Student Doctor Network)

NYT: Stem Cell Treatments Flourish Despite Evidence
Stem Cell Treatments Flourish With Little Evidence That They Work The F.D.A. has taken an industry-friendly approach toward companies using unproven cell cocktails to treat people desperate for relief from aging or damaged joints. www.nytimes.com "At a clinic in Des Moines, her blood was drawn and spun in a centrifuge to extract platelets, the cells involved in clotting. A day later, a doctor injected so-called platelet-rich plasma into the sore spots in her joints. The fact that the procedure was covered heavily swayed her to try Regenexx. â€...

Wanting to do clinical work with a Ph.D
I'm currently working toward a PhD in stem cell and cancer biology. I've worked in a hospital for almost a decade, and although I absolutely adore my research, it's really setting in that I'm going to miss having patient contact. I know I can do clinical trials once I have enough experience, but is there anything more I can do with a PhD that will directly involve me with patient care? I don't want to go to medical school, but I would love to work with a team of physicians to help treat... Wanting to do clinical work with a Ph.D (Source: Student Doctor Network)
