Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in the Balkans: Clonal distribution and associated resistance determinants
Acta Microbiol Immunol Hung. 2024 Feb 21. doi: 10.1556/030.2024.02230. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarbapenems are considered to be among the last line antibiotics against extended-spectrum β-lactamase producing Enterobacterales. Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) has been frequently reported and its spread in Europe is indisputable and poses an enormous threat to hospitalized patients which is of growing concern. This review aims to record prevalence of CRKP in the Balkan region and to review the current knowledge about this life-threatening pathogen. In this review, we summarize data about clinical isol...

Cross-sectional serosurvey of selected infectious diseases in wild ruminants in Serbia
Res Vet Sci. 2024 Feb 13;170:105183. doi: 10.1016/j.rvsc.2024.105183. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe role of wildlife in maintaining infectious diseases in veterinary medicine is often neglected, although the disease eradication process in domestic animals is continuously affected by the risk of pathogens transmission from wildlife as a primary source. The main aim of this paper was to estimate the prevalence and distribution of selected infectious diseases in wild ruminants in Serbia. In total, 259 sera from wild ruminants were tested for specific antibodies to bluetongue virus, Schmallenberg virus, Bovine viral diarrh...

SARS-CoV-2 specific antibody response after an mRNA vaccine as the third dose: Homologous versus heterologous boost
In conclusion, waning immunity after inactivated vaccine can be recovered by BNT162b2 heterologous boost regardless of the age of recipients, and both boost strategies induced potent humoral immune response and protection against severe COVID-19 during the Omicron wave. However, as the observed incidence of breakthrough infections was higher in the homologous group, although non-significant, this finding could indicate an advantage of heterologous approach.PMID:38342717 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.01.085 (Source: Vaccine)

Prevalence of obesity and impact of socio-demographic factors on obesity in 15-19 years old adolescents in Vojvodina, Serbia
CONCLUSIONS: Obesity and abdominal obesity are highly prevalent in adolescents in Vojvodina, more in boys. Gender, community type and the level of the father's education were confirmed as significant factors that influenced both obesity and abdominal obesity. This study could help to customize health promotion policies for adolescents in Vojvodina.PMID:38309707 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7683 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)
